We dont need fast as much as we need competent! Calderon at this point is not competent to play PG in the NBA at starter minutes.

Fast with turnover's does nothing. NY needs a driving, organizing and excellent defending PG. The SG needs to have a consistent 3 pt shot, and defend well.

Almost every team in the NBA has a better backcourt than NY. It cant work and it has blown up. Calderon was done last year. AA has been awful.

A rookie picked in the 2nd round is unlikley to come in and be the answer to the problems. NY has to find a competent PG that is performing in the NBA now.

I would take a flyer on Wroten, McCollum, Frazier and even Lawson. Release Admudnson and Vujacic and get 3 guards in here. Bench Calderon.

The constants are Dolan (last 16 years) and Melo (last 5 years)! Phil is too patient for the fans to be happy but he is trying so hard to change the culture of the team. It is quite hard when your best player is not invested in the TEAMS success.

As for the trianlge, please realize that GSW, SAS, Atlanta and NO use parts of it as well.

Nah. Wont stop making him accountable. This is flat out a crappy team. And who is responsible for putting personnel together. Not Melo. Agree Dolan but mostly the GM or Prez. Phil is responsible for the last two years of personnel. Made some big changes and ahould not get a pass because of fans claiming he is some magical fixture. Maybe you will finally agree once he bolts in a couple of years and leaves team worse off? Or will you still take a pass on his accountability and blame it on Melo?

And No! GS does not run what we run. Ofcourse they run parts of a triangle. As it is still basketball and even the triangle has parts like back cuts, pinch posts and an effort to balance the floor. Howevwr, We run a slow predictable system predicated mostly on the pinch post and Center position making decisions. All the teams you mentioned run mainly a high post PNR offenae with guard play at a premium. If you watch their games they run at least 3 or 4 high pick and rolls a set. Do we?

Do we have good guards? No. Yes, Phil brought them here. Calderon is here because Chandler had to go. It was a locker room issue. Afflalo has been a disappointment. Galloway was a find last year. Grant was considered a steal when he was traded for. Schved was a find but let go for $$.

I understand the frustration, I am frustrated. I just think that the team is heading in the right direction as fast as they can based on picks and $$. They have the $$ for another Max player. Hopefully something can be done that will help the team.

I am tired of changing everything every 2-3 years. It is time for stability and a new team culture. They are on the way, it is not time to change course now.

I am for Thibodeau as he is the best guy available. IMO, if Pjax does not select him but brings in one oh "his" guys, then you can hold him accountable.

The PG is so awful now that the whole team is just imploding. Calderon needs to go. NOW!

Definately agree with you on the back court. But, as you said, he brought them. And we are in agreement that the players you mentioned have been dissapointments this year. His responsibility. And Shved is a good example of yet another decision that may have been short sighted. Money could have been worked out if not for Seraphin, KO and other vets Minimums.

I am definately frustrated. And also tired of the constant change. But also tired of the ridiculous expectations placed on one guy by fans. Believe the organazation that surrounded them with garbage should be more to blame. This is why no one wishes to come here. It's a no win situation. If you come here your expected to win a chip and if not your the scapegoat. Regardless of the support around you.

Btw. Not expecting major change. We have no draft picks or any tradeable assets. We will change some of our 9 through 15 guys with no real impact. Thibs would be cool but no chance Phils ego allows it. Feel we have an All Star Caliber player and a promising young rookie and maybe one or two other good pieces, Dont think trading them would improve our situation. Specially with the time needed to learn the Triangle. Would be great to get a solid PG and secondary scorer/All Star, Just dont think we will get them beacuse of reasons mentioned above.

Its my understanding that roster moves, scouting, development, etc. are engineered/administered by the GM with the oversight of the President. Right now, Im guessing that Phil is more involved with roster moves than most presidents.

While I think Phil has done a good job changing Melo's and listening to his Euro scout on KP I just don't think we will be able to attract any talent because of the negative perception of the triangle and poor roster he has composed. That maybe true but at least Phil hasn't hurt the franchise moving forward like other GM's. We own our draft picks again finally after this season

Well, they have $$ for at least one player. So that is another piece to put with KP, Melo, and RoLo. I also like DWILL and LT as rotation players and I think Grant can be better. KP will be year stronger and better. Melo - not sure. The thing with him is if you don't improve the team enough this year to make a run, then you need to consider moving on from him.

You are right about 9-15. They don't matter much.

I do think a vet coach with some power can help a lot.

Good discussion!

Exactly - keep your picks and it's hard to mess up in the long term. It's all we've had to do all this time. I'm not really sure what Phil is expected to have done at this point. We've got KP, we've got our picks, that's a solid Base going forward. His main mistake was Fisher- hopefully he's learned from that and will go for the best coach available rather than an extension of himself.

I agree he essentially had 1 offseason, the first one he had no money and no picks. What really hurt this season is the Bargs trade. We would be able to fill one starting guard spot with a top 10 pick and be able to get another one with a FA contract. What we need to do is tank again but Phil will be fired because no one is patient enough to do what needs to be done. He will be forced to do something stupid this offseason I know it.

Im done watching this wretched system under Rambis, and idiotic fans thinking melo is the problem.

Impossible to do with our slow frontcourt.

Dude our players are not slow, they are being told to run a slow offense, even fat felton ran under MDA. If your practicing fast breaking basketball, theres no way you come out and play the way we do.

We walk the ball up on a 3 on 1 opportunity. We saw this team put up 30 fast break points game one of the season, that's what Fisher was trying to do, but kept getting flack from phil about the triangle, and ignoring Rambis, who's hell bent on running nothing but triangle sets.

The only 2 players that are playing some what decent is Melo(our pg) and Rolo (aka shaq) its sooooooo stupid cause its not wrkng

My guess is we wont get a pick in the first round but if we dont Id get Kay Felder to bring in the 2nd round--if you watch Oakland he MAKES people play faster--he puts all defenders on their heels--with a player like that guys will have to move faster. Hes going to be good in the NBA FAST--a truly fantastic passer

Question. I like some of the picks you mention for the draft but history has shown it to be hard to predict a players transition to the NBA. Therefore the high rate of draft pick failures. But now add the transition to the Triangle. A noted different and unique system which many have had trouble adjusting to. What makes you confident that 10 and up numbered picks would make that transition?
Specially in a year in which most college experts are noting this years even talent levels due to all players that left last year?

Funny, I've been putting Grant down all year, mainly because of everyone's unrealistic expectations. But I am starting to wonder what he would be playing like if in another system. As we have yet to see anyone excel.

Melo in general is not the problem. In fact if he was signed on a low contract, he could be a key part of the solution. Signed to the basketball largest contract on the planet, he is a problem.

is wade worth 21 mill, is Howard worth 22 mill, is robin lopez worth 20 mil, is rose worth 20 mill, is love worth 20 mill, the list is endless.

Dude there isn't a player on the top 10 list (currently) who can replace melo and we would have better success, including labron, so whats your point

The thing is, basketball is still basketball. The "system" depends on the players. MDA tried his own way of sharing the basketball and it worked ok but still needed that top PG to be truly good. Lin came and went but he was the right guy at that time.

While the Triangle does not depend on a top notch PG, it does depend on top guards who can handle, drive, shoot and defend. Or as otherwise known as the basic skills of a basketball guard.

i dont't think calderon is effective in any system. I do think Grant can be effective if he is given the confidence. That is where I think PJax is missed as a coach as compared to the others so far. SOme guys can do it, some can't. Confidence is highly overlooked as a key component of a top player.

No, no, no, no, and maybe. (In Love's case it depends on the team's situation.)
You're way off on Lopez's salary though.
All those salary's are lower than Melo's too by the way.

They will win under Phil. They were .500 just a month ago the wheels fell off when Melo tripped the KNICKS he can't stay healthy and that really isn't Phil's fault or Melo's. Knicks need to move on from Melo and find someone that can play games.

Don't feel most systems work if the guard play isn't top notch. Its been the consistent problem tied to lossimg over the yrs. Ppl hated Woodsons style of basketball yet with Felton and Kidd playing well during the season we had major success.

Improve the guards to pair them with Melo KP Lopez and we would be on to something.

Rangers struggled for a long time there. Dolan was patient and they've put together a real solid contender. I still don't see them getting over the hump and winning a cup.

Too bad Phil wasn't 10 or 15 years younger. I disagree with the insistence on the triangle - maybe he could work that in as I believe this team has the talent to be better.

Agree- if we had our pick this year - and that is a sunk cost/sins of someone in the past (Dolan)- our view of the collapse would be different. Its panic, and we need patience- but that doesn't mean we need Brian Shaw in here next year, or Luke Walton.
