Knicks get Porter???, Teague/Schroeder??? & cap room???

I thought we already had some cap room.

Great, we get a legit shooting PG with one guy to pass to (KP). And we end up without even BrokenBlake.
Another fabulous lets get rid of our best player idea.

Would we have won some of the games we lost when Melo was out if Teague, Porter and Nene were here? I think so. Problably just another created fantasy trade but at least one with some merit from many sides. Im a fan of Melo but we are not going anywhere as is and Melo needs to get out of purgatory at this pt of career. LA stage and chances would likely be acceptable

Beal here doesn't make much sense. Blake to the Wiz, Beal to Hawks, Teague to Knicks, Melo to Clippers has more logic to it, basketball-wise.

I love Beal's game when he's healthy. But he's got glass bones.

I think most any reasonable deal to move Melo before his body completely implodes is a good idea.

Personally I think Teague/Porter/Nene (expiring) is better than Melo + we pick up another $10M this summer for FA pursuits.

Please explain how Beal doesn't fit here. Fast, young 2G that can shoot. We don't have that o this roster.

If we got Teague/Porter now we have 2 legit starters at PG/SF plus $10M more in FA this summer.

Take our CAP space and add a legit SG like Batum/Derozan/Bazemore and another either back-up pG or SF and we have a legit team.

Ex

Teague
Batum
Porter
KP
RoLo

FA#2
Gallo
AA
D-Will

If this trade were possible, I think Uncle Phil would do back flips. Don't know how realistic it is.

gotta look at Beal's leg issues which is I believe to be a chronic issue and expected to continue. Its gonna hurt his potential pay.

very intriguing. Makes sense for Clips as it adds some of melo's dynamic and they lose some of the overlapping power game between blake and jordan; makes sense for atlanta as they get beal and give up only one pg

makes sense for Melo if he priortizes championship run over NYC

knicks essentially betting on the promise of porter (i.e., melo vs teague not fair)and getting more flexibility. I don't know when Nene gets off the books but suspect it frees things up for a run at a top FA

Would take some serious nads to pull the trigger and careful thought.

crzymdups wrote:I would do it.

No way we'd get both Teague or Schroeder - it'd have to be one or the other, probably Teague.

NeNe is a free agent after this year.

Melo for Beal is crazy and this one doesn't even have us getting Beal.....pay attention.

he may have been responding to my post where i found it more enticing if we got beal and atlanta got porter (not sure if that would work); and good points have been raised about Beal's oft-injuries so I may retract that fantasy

I hate it. What's the point of the deal? All it does is commit to a middle-of-the-road strategy, which leads to no where. We need young players that can become better or a star. This trade accomplishes neither.

not sure i agree. it provides quality players in teague and porter. And i suspect gives us the flexibility to pursue a top FA

Teague is a 28 year old muchkin whose game is predicated on his ability to get into the lane/speed. Those type of guys, especially non-stars, don't hold value for very long (e.g. Jameer Nelson, Devin Harris, etc.). I understand that a 31 year old Melo with a bad knee handicaps his trade value but not to that extent. I do like Porter but can we even say that he's a consummate starter at this point? And we're giving up a perennial all-star for that? I'd need a better jumpstart for my rebuild than this. I'd be far more inclined to find a deal to duml O'Quinn and Calderon's contract, then try my hand at signing Derozan and Horfor via free agency.

If we couldn't sign 2nd tier stars with Melo here, what are the odds on bet we do so with role players in his stead?

Derozan isn't leaving Toronto. He just made a statement about how hard it will be for anyone to get him to leave Toronto and about how much he loves putting on that Toronto jersey so anyone that's been wanting him can scratch him off their lists.

Yes he did just like many players do but Toronto is a really good young team that will be competing in the east for the next 5 years plus which Portland wasn't even close to. D.Derozan will be a Raptor next year and probably for most if not the rest of his career.

Throw in a 1st round pick coming to us and I would do this deal. Melo and Grant for Porter, Teague, and Nene is not enough.

The Raptors got swept by Washington....and you see where the Wizards are this season. TOR might be on a nice little stretch but let's not pretend they are anything but a good team in a no-name conference. Once a 29 year old Kyle Lowry begins his decline, they are toast!

This trade i can actually get behind.
