but wait a second...im still trying to find the connection between firing fisher and melo wanting to leave. lol

to me nothing has changed...unless, melo really really really wanted fisher here (doubt that)

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Means a team in flux in transition, and Melo being 31 and in his "prime", maybe doesn't want to wait for the right coach fit and roster completion to compete for a chip.

His days are numbered, if he really wants to win, why do it here when he can go to an LA (Clips) and compete immediately in the postseason.

Even if he doesn't come out and say so, I'd still look for trade scenarios to run by him. I could see something with the Clippers to go play with his buddy Paul possibly.

i agree. but why would he want to leave NOW?

did he have a close bond with fisher where he would be mad at this decision?

Nothing to do with Fisher. I think he's gotta realize, at his advanced age and with the knee problems, that his window is closing by the day. Even he's gotta realize that very slow progress is being made here (compared to last yr) and that the deck is stacked against him winning it all here. If we presented him with an opportunity to go to a decent team/a winning team, a place where he could team up with one of his close friends, a place where the weather's nice, a big city where his wife could call home and thrive, etc., these are things that should appeal to him. Plus, like you said, he gets a $5mm kicker for being traded (something I didn't know).

It's called a trade kicker. Players have had that in their contacts for some time now. Nothing to see here

i think all of those factors make sense and thats why i dont think he will ply out the remainder of his contract in ny. but it wont be now, it will be during the offseason. there are financial reasons for that

In hindsight, I really wish we would've traded him when he was a FA, out touring all those cities. Teams wanted him then. Wish we could've created a bidding war between Dallas, Houston, Chicago and whoever else wanted him and executed the best sign and trade we could've gotten at the time and moved on. I felt strongly about never being able to win it all with him then and much more so now.

a bad knee, loving wife, good school system for his son and 5 million other reasons why he WONT leave now. basically melo has job security. from those i know who are close to him: basketball isnt the end all be all for him. he has other business/entrepreneur plans. besides he already considers himself a winner (cuz he has a few gold medals)

im not saying he stays a knick forever...but he wont leave now. if anything he has more incentive TO stay so he can pick the next coach

Why are you emphasizing the word "now"? I didn't say what if he wanted out like a crying bitch. I'm saying what if his thought process changes. It doesn't have to be today or before the deadline. It could be in the summer.

You sure they wanted him or was it a ploy by Leon Rose & Melo Enterprises to build his brand after it took a hit in New York and to get max money from Dolan?

Has anyone brought up how Phil was asked about trading Melo and instead of saying flit isn't in their plans he said it's well known that Melo has a no trade claus. This pretty much confirms to me that my suspicion regarding MELO's current contract was Dolan's doing and his need for a name to hang up on the Garden Marque. The 5yr $124mil dollar deal with a no trade claus to boot did not fall in line with Phil's comments regarding Melo's free agency circus. "If he stays great, if he leaves then that is great too"

The Knicks signing any player to a max extension is a jinx. NYC = Albatross City

I would take Bobbi Portis and Rose for Melo and throw in Calderon. Portis KP Rolo and Rose D Williams Afflalo and Galloway and then put $25 million to use. Is Batum available ?
