if phil pays conley 25 million per, for a 29 yr old pg who has a career avgs of 13pg and 5ast, he deserves a back hand slap in the face

KP also changes the game for us. The Knicks now have two major pieces - any player in the NBA knows Melo is very very good and that KP can soon be very very good. They know Phil Jackson.

The Knicks will be players in free agency.

Tyson had no bidders and Amare had nobody as stupid as us.

Baloney. The Warriors wanted to sign him and had a contract on the table for Tyson before he heard the Knicks were an option.

Other teams wanted Amar'e, too, but had (obviously valid) concerns about his knees.

We outbid ourselves for Amare. Phoenix (Steve Kerr) was the only serious comp, and their offer for him to return to the Suns was for 3 years guaranteed with team options for years 4 and 5, the Knicks offered the full 5 years no strings attached.

So yea, only 1 other team wanted him, and Kerr was smart enough to let him walk.

That's some serious inside info you have to know just how many teams were interested in him or talking to him......very impressive.

Rule #1 with all free agents. Always say the knicks are a possibility to raise up the price.

Rule #2 you must mention the word "mecca" when referring to MSG

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Mike Conley would be a huge upgrade for us at the position next year; however, let's keep in mind that he's approaching 30 years old and is not considered an elite pg---just a good, above average one. If you sign him to a long, lucrative deal, the back end of the deal could very well backfire on you.

Conley is a very very good player and my dream signing here.

I think it is highly likely that he stays in Memphis and this thread was mostly meant to be humorous, as evidenced by my hilarious first post.

But I do hope that Phil gets a meeting with him and tries to sell him on his vision.

I'd say it's 80-90% Conley stays in Memphis. He's of course got to say he might go so that Memphis doesn't lowball him.

I assume you would give him a max contract. How many years would you give him? Do you really think it's a good idea to have a 35 year old + point guard on a max contract who is not a franchise player?

I like him too, but at what cost?

Conley is 28 now and turns 29 in training camp next season.

4yrs is the max we could offer him. That contract would take him from age 29-33. Melo is 30 now. Afflalo is 29 now. Rolo is 27. I think he would fit in with the vets we have around KP. You stay competitive with that group for a few years and when that group ages out, you see what type of team you need to build around KP by the time KP is in like year 4 or 5 and able to lead the team and Melo is ready to retire.

True. But I guess I mean - try to envision him running the team here. I think he's perfectly suited to it.

I heard he made a comment that it would be hard for him to ever leave Marc (Gasol)

Yes, he definitely said that. You never know - but I'd put it at about 80% he re-signs with Memphis.

If Phil gets a meeting... who knows? A lot can change in the next four or five months.

Nothing special about what Conley does. Calderón gave him the business tonight but throughout the course of a season Conley is better. Not saying much. At least 20-25 point guards in the league are flat out better.

Conley can only come here via free agency. Im still one is those guys that do not want to waste the bank on this guy. His price tag won't be worth what he brings

I think he's the type of player who makes the sum more than the total of the parts.

Calderon was guarded by Lee most of the night, for whatever reason.

But, I agree Conley has lost something from his peak.

At this point, I'd chase Jennings for less $$$. And then try to add Evan Turner or Jeff Green or possibly both.

SAUCES! We got sauces sayin' Conley.

http://espn.go.com/blog/brooklyn-nets/post/_/id/23536/source-dont-count-out-knicks-or-nets-for-mike-conleys-services-this-summer

NEW YORK -- Will Mike Conley find his way to the Big Apple this summer?

The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets might seem to be in disarray now, but don't count out the possibility that one of those two teams lands Conley in free agency. A source close to Conley believes the Memphis Grizzlies point guard will be more receptive to playing for the Knicks and Nets than most think.

Basically, I can't see him leaving Memphis and Gasol to come to NY

Zachary is in decline. Gasol has a foot issue. Have to wonder what Memphis mgmt is thinking. They might be saying they don't want to pay for Conley and instead think they can get by with cheaper options like chalmers etc as they try to get new talent up front (especially because of Randolph). I wouldn't be at all surprised if they draw a hard line with him -- and maybe they already have and thus the FA talk

Having said that I'm not a big fan. A little too old. Do you want a guy in his prime now, or who is in his prime 2 years from now when KP is a force! Also significant concern that you're buying high and out of desperation. There's not a lot of high level pg on FA this year so you could end up overpaying if you convince yourself you need him. I just don't think he's worth any significant money.
