So the coach with the worst record in the EAST gets a contract extension, and the coach with the best record in the EAST gets FIRED..SMH..Only in the NBA..Where the players and agents run things

so i am not sure if you guys noticed this...but during the warriors cavs game...throughout the 4th quarter lebron was in tyronn lue's ear. i even alluded to it in another thread saying mj and kobe would have never lost by 40 on their home court. i guess ty lue took lebron's displeasure to upper mgmt and next thing you know blatt is fired. yeah lebron you can say "you were informed of the decision" hahaha

anyone see Blatt last night when he was interviewed about hacking Jordan?

He said the current rule stinks and he hopes it changes (i.e. to a rule that grants a FS and the ball for a hack -- ala European rules which call it unsportsmanlike) but then he did it anyway in two separate stints

Was not good for PR. Also imagine Lebron must have been thinking this is embarrassing, "is this what we have to do to win?"

I wasn't impressed by him but feel bad for him too

But this isn't surprising. Their scheme wastes Kevin Love and doesn't take advantage of Kyrie's pressence enough.

Also, I watched some of the LAC/CLE game last night and Blatt kept looking to Tyronne Lue and asking him what to do, which I thought was strange.

I bet they name Lue head coach, at least for the rest of the year.

Bet you are right about Lue. From afar it looks like Lue has been bailing Blatt out since he became coach. Impressive credentials coming in, looked like a bad combination of having a contender thrust upon him instead of the rebuilding job Blatt thought he would be working on, and a lack of experience. Seemed out of his element from the start.

Blatt was an experienced coach overseas, but never had to deal with someone like James. My gut feeling is that Lebron, from the start, was unwilling to play the kind of offense Blatt wanted to install...and there was no way Blatt was going to win that battle.

If I remember correctly, I think James had issues with Spolestra at first, but in that situation the coach was backed by Riley's rings and Wade, another superstar, who had already taken Miami to a title.

James want Love...the Cavs make the trade.

James wants the Cavs to overpay blue collar guys like Thompson and Shump with limited, but important, skills who don't get into Lebron's way on offense...the Cavs sign them.

James is tired, and wants to take himself out...he does it without permission.

Shumpert probably hurts himself doing some show-off stuff before the season and is out for the first part of the season...must be Blatt's fault.

Irving unable to start for most of the season...Mosgov not the same player since his operation- got to find someone to blame this stuff on.

Blatt was going to be hired by Kerr in GS as his offensive guru, I think, but James and the Cavs seem unable to run a sophisticated offense, and frequently revert to 1/1 ball.

Look at the Knicks and how it should be done. Got to give Phil, Fish, and Anthony credit for not putting the team through the same stuff the Cavs are going through.

What???!!!

About as much of a chance that James was involved in getting Blatt fired as there is that a river can catch fire...

Lue is Lebron's pick

When the Cavs were struggling during the first half last year Lue was rumored as a candidate to replace Lue. I don't think Blatt was a good fit. I believe I read or heard that Blatt expected guys to treat him with tremendous respect based on his international success and this rubbed some players the wrong way. That was last summer.

Just heard that Blatt was .500 vs teams with .600 or better record this year. I have no doubt that LeBron was a handful, thats why I mentioned Blatt having a contender thrust upon him.

If Blatt had the time to learn the NBA game while the team was rebuilding, I believe over time he would have been successful. Blatt admitted that he was getting used to the length of the NBA game, had problem with rotations because of it. On a rebuilding team its not a big deal, on a contender, it is.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired coach David Blatt, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Ty Lue, Blatt's top assistant, has agreed to a multiyear deal to become the team's new head coach, sources told Yahoo.

Blatt's dismissal comes one season after he helped guide the Cavs to the 2015 NBA Finals in his first year as an NBA coach. Cleveland leads the Eastern Conference with a 30-11 record and has won 11 of its past 13 games. The two losses came against the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors, who beat the Cavs by 34 points on Monday.

LOL LeBron didn't like him

Exactly

He was "dead man walking" the minute he was hired. The CAVS needed a strong veteran NBA coach that would be able to demand his players respect.
Hopefully T.Lue would be able to manage these egos.

ESPN just read quotes from Brendan Haywood talking about Lue pointing out when LBJ missed defensive assignments during film sessions. Haywood said this in part earned the other players respect.

Except on the Knicks.

Another virtue of Triangle Culture: you don't get nonsense like this that makes everyone's life miserable.

I couldn't follow any non-Triangle team. Never have . . . never will. It's too chaotic and brutal and painful.

lebron should ask ownership to hire him as president, gm, and coach. give him what he wants and he will the hard way.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

What is wrong with that? They play real basketball in Europe. KP's easy adjustment is only due to the fact that NBA's ball is a primitive selfish kind of basketball. It is way easier for him to excel in NBA.

i expect the cavs to unravel from here on out. i can see them dropping to the middle of the pack. tyron lue as the titular head coach. does anybody get the feeling that chaos and underachievement are in the cavs' future?

whatever.

it'd be great if the knicks continue to gel to the point where they could end up facing the cavs in the first round.

Blatt was very accomplished before he was hired by the cavs.
In his 21 years of coaching professionally, David Blatt has won 17 championships in various leagues and tournaments, most recently leading Maccabi Tel Aviv to a Euroleague championship in May; he is simply one of the great winners in basketball today.

Can You Put Those Accomplishments in Perspective? Sure. How’s this: Blatt has won a EuroBasket title (2007), a Euroleague title (2014), and an Olympic medal (bronze, 2012). There are only five other head coaches in basketball history who have hit that trifecta.

What Do Players Think of Him? Let’s take the word of Andrei Kirilenko, one of the best Russian basketball players ever, if not the best. Kirilenko has said in the past that he thinks Blatt is a better coach than Phil Jackson.
