I think we stand a much better chance of finding a defensive contributor from the D league (or riding pine some place) than finding Derrick Rose/Westbrook (seems all the cries for point guard help on this forum are for guys who can fill it up)

Excellent Post. Certain fans are too sensitive and they misinterpret criticism as hate. I love jose as a leader, person, and especially as a shooter which he is pretty consistent. My issues with jose really lie in his defense and as a passer. He tends to have trouble seeing the floor and misses open guys sometimes. He also makes great passes other times but not consistently. I think the reason i focus on that is because i have played point guard all my life and have always been defensive minded and a pass first player. However i do like jose and feel he his a real leader especially toward KP

i would also like it if he was less hesitant to shoot and more aggressive in drawing fouls. FT and shooting in general are his strengths. And if the other guy is going to be burning you on the other end, you need to punish him a little in return

true but he has been much more aggressive lately which i really like. Getting jose to the line is important because of his free throw ability

somehow i would hope that crafty veteran could force more action and fouls. He's been really poor at it, which stinks given his excellent shooting percentage. He's averaging 0.7 FT a game (sorry can't get formatting right). So far in January he is shooting more but some of that is attributed to more minutes, and oddly even with more minutes his FT attempts are down. If Isiah or Shane or some other smurf burns him on one end he needs to develop a way to punish them on the other. Again, I think he contributes to the team in important ways but this would be the area I'd like to see him improve -- play to his strengths and be selectively aggressive.

broadwaystorm wrote:First and foremost you would get more defense by putting a traffic cone under the basket. Second, for a veteran player he plays like a coward. He visibly panics when double teamed and when this happens he always puts people in a bad spot to shoot. He can't shoot. He should never be taking any important shots yet time after time you see it and he misses. He'll make a 3 every now and then in spot in the game but never in crunch time. He is just the epitomy of a mediocre player and I think he does not belong on this team if we are to take winning seriously. And again its not that he is a bad person but I still want them to grab him and kick him in his behind right out into the cold street on 8th avenue after the Knicks next home game. I don't even want him to get his clothes or head to the showers. Just throw him out in his uniform. We'll mail him his stuff the next day. I don't want to see him again.

so I don't get a post like this. I know there is frustration out there, but most of this stuff is either not right or so obtuse it would never happen.

Same here. I don't hate Calderon, but I don't see him as a starting PG. he does lead a lot of the young dudes, and that is valuable. He is a horrible defender, but I don't mind him getting minutes if he makes up his mind to shoot the ball. At this point, that is all he is good for. Shoot the ball or take a sit.

But the point i was trying to get at was that as of now he's our best option to be starting for us and until we can get a better player in here to play the point he should be starting for us. Wouldn't you agree with that??

I agree, but with a caveat: he needs to shoot the ball. If not, he needs to be replaced.

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

This is always empty rhetoric in adsence of replaced with who and how.

The Jose Calderon hate.
