I would do this trade in a heartbeat and given Houston's relationship with wagner and his family, he should be a good mentor for wagner..

wagner + starbury = one of the fastest backcourts in the league. that's where it starts and end. with wagner you are stuck playing the 2 with limited experience. a much better fit would be someone that plays 2/3 with rebounding skills. and that player is ricky davis, that has been coming off the bench since the trade with good results. i think case said, trade for davis while his value is down. I agree

starbury/fwill
h20/ricky davis
tt/penny
sweetney/harrington
nazr/deke

But he is a head case. Problematic player. May have talent but I don't think he would really help us. I'd maybe prefer staying put and creating a good chemestry and team atmosphere. Maybe some here would welcome him, but personally I don't think he really helps us.

problematic player?...rodman, sheed, artest and look what they've done

the real problem is having 2 of 50 greatest nba players of all time on the same team without mentoring such cases

I don't know. If it happens, well it happened. I just don't see NY really needing him or him really making NY so much better. The cases you mention its ok, but NY is not where Chicago was or where Detroit and Indiana are. Those players brought or bring something like unique to those teams that made them improve to another level. The Knicks are still a work in process. He could help a team that really needs him, but I don't think he is the missing link for NY. But thats just me...
knicks have holes everywhere.

let's do some analysis.

no definite back up PG: is it frank or not? where does moochie fit in?

no definite SG: no surefire starting SG. No solid backup SG. No defense from this position. Ricky Davis would be a good fit with Marbury. We need an above the rim player to run with Marbury that is a little intense to play with fire on this team. Marbury just isnt very firey, he's more of a brooding loner.

SF: Tim Thomas's teammates think he's fugazy. Who is the backup? DeMarr? Ariza? Pretty much unknowns.

PF: We've got guys at this spot. Kurt Thomas, but he's been involved in heavy rumors. Walker would not hold this spot down and controls the rock, something that Marbury does too. Sweets may look like the future here, but he hasnt been consistently productive and his lack of height in the NBA makes a big difference. In the NBA, you need a solid post player to win big, even if you are MJ (he had rodman and cartright).

Center: This spot is up for grabs. We all thought Nazr was going to run away with this spot, but he was not the terror we thought he could be at center in the Leastern conference. He couldnt really out do Collins from NJ in the playoffs. At 6-10, he's undersized, and did not come through the way IT thought he would, so he's on the trading block...

Who else is there? A possible return by Vin Baker?

huh?

frank, penny, sweetney, and dikembe, not to mention shandon, moochie, othella, dermarr, and ariza make up a pretty decent bench (much better than many around the league) and represents a good mixture of veterans and young players. of course some of them aren't as good as others but to think we have no type of bench is crazy.

Agreed; those question marks are silly. If we have Marbury and Frank at PG, to say that we have question marks at that position is so silly that I stopped reading the rest of the message right there.

I'm not sure if Wagner's gonna be a solid NBA player or not. He can score, but he's way small and his shot selection is very suspect. There are better options. I'm definitely open to a supremely talented guy like Ricky Davis. Headcase for sure, but he reminds me of a young Sprewell on the offensive end. A little slight, but can play some SF at 6-7.

Plus...Davis' shot selection has improved without having to carry the full load. He shot like 49% in Boston. Plus he can create for others.
