The more I read about it, the less I feel sorry for Cleanthony:

The attack happened around 4:30 a.m. after the 24-year-old Bronx native left the CityScapes Gentlemen’s Club on 58th Street and jumped into a livery car.

The night began with the pair going for dinner in SoHo and then arriving at the strip club on 58th Street at about 1:30 a.m., another law-enforcement official said. Hours later, the ballplayer hailed the car using the app on his phone and hopped into the back seat with his girlfriend, the official said.

So apparently, Cleanthony took his dinner date from the relatively safe area of SoHo MANHATTAN to one of the seediest strip clubs in QUEENS, an entirely different borough. Somehow Cleanthony knows how to hail an UBER, but doesn't know how to YELP. And he decided his date would love making it rain until 4:30 AM in the morning in this sketchy part of town. How romantic!

This is squarely on him.

First Dwill now Early. Phil better get down to the locker room and tighten some team guidelines/ rules. The kids have to be continually advised and brought to realize they are targets and to not put themselves in vulnerable positions. Lot of bad people out there with no conscious. This is bad but at least he's alive. Could have been alot worse for Dwill as well with the gals/hookers. Putting aside his Knick status, best wishes to Early for a full recovery and hope this ugly incident doesn't derail his dream of a long NBA career

Poor cleanthony, what a young kid my Pryers go out to him what a shame.. Wtf is he doing in queens at a trashy joint. There's plenty of high end classy clubs in the city you should be taking your girl too.

I'm sure he got shot by a unmarked unregistered weapon. Fucking hood rats . I ****ing hate guns, they should all be banned esp hand guns what the **** is the point their created for violence on people
And turning *****s who don't know how to fight into men.

Let's hope for a fast recovery and that this is just another step toward making guns illegal.

That is BS. No one deserves to be shot.

It doesn't sound like the smartest move by Cle. But saying it is squarely on him is bull****.

Unless they strip search every home in nyc...which they would never do.....guns will always be on the street. The problem is not people having guns in nyc.....its the other states like az that allows anybody to walk in and purchase a gun.

He was already in Manhattan, couldn't he go to Hustler, Sapphire, or Flashdancers instead? Why take an hour cab ride to Maspeth Queens? You know those Manhattan strip clubs take care of their home athletes, probably just comp him and his date the whole night for showing up and giving their club press.

Still on him. Not the getting shot part, but the bad decision making part.

New Rules (especially in New York)

No professional athlete should be hailing UBER. A care service is mandatory for any high earner.

No professional athlete should be out past midnight. You have a job.

If needed, bring the party to the crib. ID checked at the door with secret service level people inside and posted in the hallway.

If you must have it, stash your jewelry in a safe deposit box. Wear a Swatch.

Get your rest.

Early doesn't make the type of money to warrant this type of set up. The risk reward wouldn't be worth it. And to be shot in the knee, sounds more personal then a robbery.

Cle's on second rounder money. $845,000 this year BEFORE taxes. I bet someone at this club was like "yeah, man, come on through, we'll give you and your girl free drinks all night." Cle's trying to act like he's living large but he can't afford those Manhattan places.

yeah ive been there before with my girl (now wife). its mad shady and a place i wouldnt want to be around at 4am. it was poor judgement but i dont want to come down too hard on the victim here. i feel bad for him and hopefully its not career ending

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Update - he's been released from the hospital - so hopefully it's just a flesh wound and nothing structural with the knee.

That would be great news. This is certainly not the way you want your basketball career to end. Even if you are an NBA Scrub. You worked your ass off to get where you are

Early was already released this morning from the hospital. My guess is that he is not that bad. Can't imagine a pro athlete being released for a gunshot wound to the knee so soon, otherwise. And it happened at 4:30 am. Pulled that info from here.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/knicks-player-cleanthony-early-shot-during-uber-robbery-in-queens-1451484765

A spokeswoman for the hospital said he was released Wednesday morning.

I won't judge this kid. Maybe they just met up with a friend or something.

All in all Knick players have rarely been in bad situations which means team has good security and are taught what to avoid.
That don't mean they don't always listen or lapse of good judgement. 24 years old and not all savvy in the ways of what the hell not to do. He was sharp enough to take a cab and it all looks like a setup which could be just from Patrons knowing he was there.

This is not how you want a career to end! If released that might be good news as a bullet to the knee can't ever be an easy thing to get back from!!!!

They took the drivers ID? That's scary!!!!! He won't talk.
