Also, you have to believe that D'Antoni had at least some input in this move. That is - targeting Ish Smith and cutting ties with Wroten.

It's the skill set! He may not be the most cerebral guard but he naturally sees when to attack and has the talent to score at the basket. We don't have a guard like him but NEED a guard that can get penetration at any time. Wish he was a bit more high BBALL IQ and a shooter but then he would not be available if he had all of that. I'll take what he's great at cuz it's what we need. Coach him up and see where it leads.

Did not seem like the kind of player I would want after that last game he played against us...I think I accused him of having a low BB IQ.

Kamikaze driver to the basket and an extremely limited outside game. About 23% from 3, 41% FG, and a sub 70% foul shooter for a guy who drives to the basket a lot, and almost a 1/1 assist/turnover ratio.

Agree with the posters who see MDA involved in this move and Wroten not being back from his knee injury.

Team Tank had him for 3 years and now that the Colangelo Reformation is here they dump him. Folks can reach their own conclusions from this observation.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

Agree on all counts. We need that skill set in our guards.

I think he has to clear waivers first, right?

Tony Wroten only works if he can go to Lance Thomas School. Wroten is a mix between Rondo's shooting mechanics and Rodney Stuckey's size. If only he could shoot fts

He hasnt developed at all. I understand the intrigue some may have, but he is not a good piece to have. His ability to attack the rack does not eclipse his inability to shoot from anywhere on the court. His turnovers are way too high and contrary to some belief he is an awful defender.

Besides this, coming back from his injury, not really sure if he even has that skillset of being able to attack the rack at this point. Easy pass.

Tony Wroten requires defensive attention. He's a good defender as well. His skill set would open up the whole offense. He's basically free if he clears waivers.

Everyone knows we need a point guard that can get to the basket. A big guard that can defend. This guy is it. Guys want Conley and other big names we can't afford. We need this talent now not next year. Wroten would be a minimum deal if we are so lucky to pick him up. Zero risk and high reward.

I'd much rather throw some 2nd round picks at Detriot to see if we can wrangle Spencer Dinwiddie away from them. I haven't seen much of him but in the limited minutes I have seen, he seems to have completely recovered from his ACL injury in college. Had it not been for that, some speculate that he would've been a mid-first rounder in the stacked 2014 draft. What we do know about him is that he's especially long, a decent shooter, good with moving without the ball and can get into the paint consistently....the perfect ingredients for a triangle PG.

...but I'd take a flier out on Wroten. Every player has his flaws; it's up to the coach, the system he implements and teammates to help mask said flaws.

I've always been a quasi-fan of Wroten but what concerns me is that so much of those highlights involved him getting to the hoop in transition. We are one of the slower teams in the league (as was Philly), so I wonder how many opportunities Wroten will have to break down the defense in this fashion. And I'm not sure he's a good enough rebounder to be a one man fast-break like Lance Stephenson use to be for the Pacers back in the day when they utilized the triangle.

Even so, I was impressed with his ball handler and finishing ability with either hand. He's so skilled in that regard that it makes it difficult to defend him since it becomes harder to predict his point of attack. It comes as no surprise to me that he'd be terrific at getting to the line. At the very least, those are skills this team needs at the guard spot so I'd roll the dice on him.

Spencer Dinwidle or other young players like him are the type of guys the Knicks should target. They need to try to uncover hidden talent on teams benches. It's not an easy thing but if they can identify someone who fit their player type who's could be had it would be wise to pull the trigger.

he's a horrible defender.

besides, why do "we" need a talent now? to win a title?

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

He's a young player and IMO it's really smart to take a flyer on a talent like him that has obvious strengths but needs to tighten up some aspects of his game. Let's remember what people thought of Shved and LT when we 1st got them!!! They look totally different in our system. I'm not saying Wroten is a lock to have that kind of success but even DWill looks a lot better here than he did on other teams.

This system will enhance Wroten's strengths and minimize his limitations. He won't have to run the team like a pure PG! He can work on his jumper as it will come in pretty much the same spots in this offense. He will thrive pushing the ball and cutting to the hole in this offense.

um even though i like(d) his athletic ability, i believe this is his 2nd major knee surgery (he had an ACL tear in his jr in HS). he might be damaged goods and thats why he was waived - for the immortal ish smith

also, the triangle takes patients and IQ to me - both of which he lacks

i simply dont think this would be a good fit

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better
