good point. Not a coincidence that he played his best game in a long time after barkley and fisher called him out

I can't believe he never met Barkley in his 13 years in the league, how could they have never cross paths. Thats really strange..

I think the team played with a quicker pace, more to his liking.

he hit his shots. end of story. when he is clanking them, we're screwed. I actually was more inspired by what I saw in Sacramento. If I can see more of that melo (clanking melo doing other things) then I will have hope.

Of course he was great last night ... can't argue that.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Utah there was a lack of effort, poor body language just a total lack of competitive fire. In Sacramento there was a lack of conviction to finish the job, he makes his free throws they win the game forget the last shot. If he gave the effort that he gave during this season the Knicks would be 5-7 games above 500.

Can Melo continue to give this type of effort on a daily basis remains to be seen. My gut says this was just a turn back the clock night that some players experience as their career declines towards the end.

Melo can't possibly be blamed for that Kings game. He kept the intensity when we were down and that inspired the team to play harder. He was the guy who was always trying to find open players as well as his own shot. He may not have shot it well but he definitely found other ways to possitively impact the game.

I do blame him for that the kings loss. He shot 6-11 from the free throw line. If he is going to be the man and want the ball in his hand then he better hit his free throws. Yes he looked for the open man but he shot poorly from the floor and poorly from the line. This is the franchise player he has to be more consistent than what he gave you in the Kings game.

Enough excuses for Melo there is freaking standard that he has to adhere to, if he wants that status of being a superstar he has to have Portland game night in and night out. I watched that Kings game and it sucked.

Well said. Can't have 1 good game out of 10 or 12. He has to be more consistent, and lead by example. Can't whine about officiating, but then launch a potential game winning 26 footer when you have a wide open player under the basket. Glad he bounced back finally in Portland, but he has to follow up with another good performance, and another, and another. Can't just show up once in a blue.

Especially at $124 million....

Team is desperate for a win. Melo 37 points. KP zero. Still think that KP is the alpha? You put so much work into those threads, I kinda feel bad for you.

That's pitiful that you guys pick the 1 bad game KP has had in awhile to coincide with Melo's 1 good game he's had in awhile to illustrate a point.

Talk about sample size!

I just hope you now realize that KP needs much more time to develop and will not put up all-star numbers (19 and 10 i think you said) in his first year. As the season goes on, and its a very long season, he will be lucky to maintain the numbers he is putting up right now. He will need to make adjustments in order to do so, and hopefully he does. But this is still Melo's team, we will win and lose with him, and you will see the transition to KP's team when the time is right.

Its amazing how hitting or missing his shots changes perceptions of Melo's game, attitude, intensity from game to game. Im a bit surprised that someone hasnt said his post game interview indicated that he wants to stay a Knick for life

I completely understand where you are coming from.
-Lets negate the fact that he lead by example and inspired the the team to keep being persistent when they were down]
-Lets negate the fact that he grabbed like...14 boards that game?
-Should we forget that he passed the ball a lot to get players involved into the game?
His shot was clearly off but he did some great stuff to keep us into the game as well.

I'm not a fan of what Melo has done his career at NYK at all, but we should be fair and give him credit when it is due.

The Future is Bright!

I thought he was tired of losing. Barkley's comments and the speculation and assumptions made about his body language probably provided a little extra motivation but I don't think he wanted to go home 0-4.

He is suppose to put up big numbers that is what he gets paid to do. Can you guys imagine where the Knicks would be if he brought it every night. My point is you can't be pedestrian and want to hold the tag superstar.

great game by melo tonight
