Though Towns is the shoe-in at this very second for ROY, don't count out KP to make it interesting.

I've already rule out OK4, because....Sixers.

Stamina and rookie wall aside, if somehow KP finishes the season strong on a team making the playoffs, don't count out momentum and the New York media hype.

Towns or KP helping their teams reach the playoffs would be significant, but I just don't think you can count OK4 out, even though is seems that many are.

It's the numbers on a bad team stigma. Lots of rookies over the years put up good stats when they were the focal point of the team, but it never correlated to a winning team in the standings.

Like so many before him, the Jerry Stackhouses, the Steve Francises, Christian Laettner's...raw numbers don't really factor in the grand scheme if you don't impact wins and losses.

Making the playoffs or at least a big turn around in the win column from the previous season, factors in alot in Rookie of the Year voters minds.

what has Ok4 done better than Towns. Would love to hear one stat that can be use to argue for him.

3 more PPG? Granted he takes almost five more shots a game!
Seriously I'd rank him way way below KP and Towns right now.

Won't deny that I'm playing Devil's advocate, a bit, but you're making it sound like these things are put into the stat computer and that is what determines who gets the award.

OK4 goes into games as essentially the only guy on Philly who can really hurt you as a team- this can't be said about KP or Towns.

Seem to recall that you did not feel Wiggins was the ROY last year...Right?

Not saying that OK4 necessarily deserves the award, but to completely dismiss him seems a bit extreme, IMO.

You're not talking about science or fantasy league evaluations when you look at how they choose the player who "deserves" the award. Have to look at the guys who vote and what they are looking for- they are writers and broadcasters who might have a different way of figuring out who deserves the award.

Am I incorrect in remembering that Wiggins or MCW- guys you are not a fan of- both got ROY?

Do you really believe that OK4 won't be given heavy consideration and possibly win if things continue the way they are going?

I like KP and Towns, but I'm not going to stick my head in the "statistical sand" that you seem to be staring at with great intensity.

You are right about me not liking wiggins for ROY (nice memory sir). I thought that Mirotic played much much better.

Towns biggest problem in the NBA is the same as college.

FOUL TROUBLE.

You can't be a consistent impact player if you are always on the bench. The games when he's not in foul trouble, he's a beast (Im guessing). But thats his weakness. And like OK4, Towns doesn't have a defined offensive skill set. He an all around talent on offense.....And makes his money on defense, which is why he's always in foul trouble.

Also, I'm not sure if the teams record impacts ROY candidates. With the MVP award, yes.....But if I'm not mistaken, ROY is an individual award. With that said, it's clearly a 3 headed race (OK4, Towns, KP). KP currently has the momentum on his side. Was at the gym yesterday, and it feels good to hear non Knick fans talk about KP, saying he's a big time player. Some where saying they rather have KP over Dwight Howard. MMMMMMmmmmm!

Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland. The future is bright, I'm a Knicks fan for life!

so are you making a case for ok4? I don't see him in the race, at least not logically.

Nice write-up, Walt.

On the Noel tip -

WaltLongmire wrote:As an aside- Noel was mostly a spectator. Played 32 minutes, and you really didn't feel his presence at all. Wonder if he is happy being there, especially now that OK4 has dibs on the offense in the paint, and is defending at the 5. Noel did not take a 3, had only 5 rebounds and a block, and did not seem like a former lottery pick who slid because of an injury (wasn't that the case?) and was almost ROY last year. He did get to watch Wiggins carry the TWolves on his back and win the game for them, though.

He seems miserable there. I don't know if it is year 3 of the losing culture finally getting to him or something else, but man, he doesn't look happy there and his game has not been as energetic this year.

Also, this is just sad:

OK4 good player on a bad team and if healthy will be ROY. Don't mean he is the best long term. Kids game is translating very well to the NBA and would have been worthy taken 1st or second.
IN fact given phil's preference for the big butt we might have taken him with the top pick. Towns talent does not project nearly as easy as Okafor's. Towns can be either a 4 or 5 and he too has to fill out.

Oka4 getting big minutes and lots of touch's which will help his development. Hope the dreaded rookie overuse ACL or stress fracture does not visit him.

Bottom line is our kid might eclipse both of them in time. Right now Oka4 is ROY in my book. 15 games don't tell the whole story yet.

In fact, Russell being labeled a "bust" is kind of comical. If perceived a bit of a project and Lakes gunning to finish bottom 3 lottery its their best chance of rebuilding while Kobe does his fairwell tour.

You factor in OK4's point guards? TJ McConnell is a nice little find, but he should be a third string PG at this point. Rubio, for all his faults, is a world beater compared to Philly's PGs. That certainly has an impact on the type of shots that OK4 has to create..

Oh, I am lol But our guards dont look that bad next to Philly. Plus, Philly doesn't have another player capable of drawing a double team.

Just hope Philly can win before they face us...just don't want to even think we might be their first victory.

Watched both play each other the other day, and as I said, OK4 was the superior player that night,...and yes, I know it was only one game, but that "eye test" was an easy test to evaluate.

I would have picked Towns #1 at the time of the draft, maybe KP, now, but on the day of the draft I was happy that OK4 was chosen at 3, because I would have taken Kristaps over anyone except Towns.

Always difficult when you evaluate 19/20 year old guys...takes a number of years before you can truly evaluate them- just like Phil talked about.

Not that concerned about ROY stuff, just happy that we ended up with a very good player.

yes. way too early to assign winner and losers. Now its just predictions as well as the "what would you do today" scenarios.

Also, we have not addressed that Ok4 looks like he will be a sub par nba defender while the other 2 seem to be really good defenders (at worst).

Factor into the MVP voting? No way. You don't vote for the MVP award based on how much better the player would hypothetically be in a different scenario. You have to vote based on how he actually did play.

Yeah, but we both know voters use different criteria when deciding ROY. Just look at the Wiggins vote last year. I thought Noel should've won, but that's neither here nor there.
