And you know that for a fact? You do realize that a good mix of players, great coaching and luck can propel a team to win a championship? See the Warriors.

yes I'm aware of that. Not sure I am following your comparison though.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Afflalo was a good pickup. He's not great but he's is GOOD! He's had enough success in his career to be a confident player and he has less pressure than he had in Orlando. He can just do his thing as teams focus on MELO n KP. He has a solid mid range game too. It's a good fit.

i liked the pickup. My only issue is finding a balance beteween shooting and dishing. We need him to score but sometimes he misses wide open guys and takes a bad shot

Before last year, no one thought Draymon Green was a special player. Many around here would say that he takes too many shots, etc. but what that dude brings when he is on the floor can't be replaced. My man AA has the same intangibles

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

You are suggesting that AA can be for us what Dray is to GS?

Dray is playing like an MVP

Yes I am. He is playing his role beautifully. With more time and a few more wins, his value will be even more noticeable. I know most here are enamored with KP and can't see the greetings that are happening with other players, but this dude is a solid player

first off people are being fair about Afflalo, he is important but comparing him to dray is asinine. Secondly why should fans be enamored with KP? The kid is a goddamn beast

I guess there is some sense to reading with nuance. Poster didn't say AA is Dray, but you can compare players and the role that you envision them to encompass without saying AA is Dray or as good as Dray or will become Dray.

Why can't AA be a catch-all player for NY in the sense that Dray is for GW? Do all the small things while elevating his own game in the system.

I don't think so ... how can Afflalo be that guy for the knicks? That is not who he is. He seems to be able to score at an ok efficiently with that weird looking shot but he does not rebound that well or pass. No steals or blocks (but decent to good defense).

Dray does it all and does it well! Very few players are that dynamic. I am not sure if you have watched him this year but its incredible what he is doing and what he means for that team.

Melo can me our Dray. He is that talented, can rebound and can pass beautifully when he wants to. Iggy is sort of that type of player. Pippen was somewhat that type.

I know this was not a direct comp to Dray but I don't see how Afflalo can be anything close to that player who does it all.

Dray is avg'ing 12 points 8 rebounds and 7 ASSISTS per game playing lots of point PF and point center ... no bigs can run with him and he can actually defend guys so much bigger than him.

I actually think that Gallo has much more potential to be a player that does a bit of everything that Afflalo.

The #s don't lie

Things have begun to click for the Knicks, whose balanced approach seems to lead to different players stepping up each game. They've won 4 of 6 since Arron Afflalo returned from his hamstring injury, and the shooting guard is averaging 12.7 points while providing a stabilizing presence on both ends of the floor. The same can be said for veteran point guard Jose Calderon, who has regained his stroke to shoot 51.9 percent from downtown over the last eight games.

52% from downtown. That is incredible. For 8 games.

I agree. Not that Vujacic was not trying hard, but his game is pretty limited and he is not much of a defender. AA is a better defender and more diverse offensive player. AA is not a top-10 SG, but eliminating Vujacic and replacing him with an NBA caliber starting SG, makes all the difference in the world.
