I sang Phil's praises all summer and now everyone can see his BBall IQ and vision for team building!!! He made the right choice in the biggest draft we had since Ewing!!!

i know you want everybody to praise phil like a god BUT even phil didnt expect him to be this good this quickly. In fact he said it would probably take 2 years. I give phil credit for drafting him BUT i give porzingis credit for evolving much sooner than expected

That's media 101. He was managing expectations. I'm not saying he projected to be a double-double machine or score 29 in game 12…

My comments were mostly about how Phil rebuilt the team and on top of that he gets FULL CREDIT for taking the player with the most upside when it was a risky thing and he KNEW he would get killed for taking KP! Don't tell me Phil doesn't deserve FULL CREDIT.

i agree your boy phil did a good job but its very early to build a statue for him quite yet. Porzingis was the best player available at that point so mosts GMs would pick him

You're totally rewriting history now and underestimating the pressure of GM moves in NY! I 100% disagree with the narrative you're making in this case. It was a brave move to take KP! It was also in line with his stated goal for this team. Phil has done a very good job and after all the crap the media and some fans dumped on him it's only right to acknowledge his moves have already shown he did the right things.

The make up of the players he's brought in is light years beyond what we used to have.

It absolutely was a brave move and it was criticized by a lot of media members. The knicks losing the lottery was really disappointing. Phil made a great move drafting Porzingis.

I defend Phil cuz I think too many fans and media don't respect his BBall mind. Phil was smartly lowering expectations for KP. At the same time they were dead serious about helping KP get his body right for his rookie season. Phil also said he wanted KP to START! So despite talking KP down in the media, Phil was always high on KP or else he wouldn't have pushed for him to start from day one.

now you are being silly. EVERYONE respects phils BBALL mind....the man won 11 titles. However you seem to get offended if anyone questions one of his moves. For example the calderon trade. Nothing wrong with saying it was a bad move

NO! "EVERYONE" did not respect Phil's BBall mind in relation to his vision for building a team! You can't just ignore all the bashing Phil took for last year and all the doubt there was about whether he knew how to build a team and could get it done as a GM!!! People were saying he only took the job for the money!!!

This! Google any Triple post and read about how old Phil is and behind the times he is. There were/are others. The guy has a thick skin and is extremely confident but he was trashed in the media and by some fans. Google any Sheridan article. Anything SAS wrote or said after the draft/free agency. The guy is paid well but he has turned this franchise around. No 'Fools Gold' as was often mentioned about the 54 win team. The Knicks have a really good roster. They have really good young players.
I'm tired,I'm tired, I'm so tired right now......Kristaps Porzingis 1/3/18

No misunderstanding. Jackson was managing fan/media expectations. He wasn't sharing his own earnest expectations with the media.

I love KP, but would never even consider a Towns/KP debate this early in their respective careers.
Just pointless at this time, even though the speculation is entertaining.

I do agree with the posters who feel KP might have more of an upside that Towns, but Towns is not a finished product, either...although he is much further along physically than KP.

Still, its amazing to see KP's progress...I just hope he keeps his head on straight while being barraged by all the love from Garden fans who were booing him this past June.

The fickle Garden crowd is insane. The reaction to KP tonight sort of reminded me of Linsanity. Especially the way some of his teammates on the bench were looking on in disbelief. I don't think it'll be a problem for KP - but I wonder if there'll be some jealousy down the ranks. This is for all intents and purposes a very good group of guys, but I'm curious about that.

Though the nice thing is that Melo seems ready to share the burden/spotlight a little now with KP, whereas he seemed very uncomfortable with that idea with Lin. Melo's embracing KP and looking for him on the floor has sped this transition and made it a hell of a lot smoother than it could've been.
