That may be true for him on the offensive end but his biggest value he brings is his defense which will be something he can bring every night. This kid can guard multiple positions and can do it well. It's not about the stats they put up.

That was jefferies and Anderson too their defense earned them big money... I do agree the kid brings it defensively... LT hitting his shots is gravy. I love that you can see the hard work is paying off for Thomas ... I will say before this game he was frustrating me with his lack of athletic ability.

I said I didnt understand why people are so down on Lance when he proved he can step in as a spot starter and have the occasional 15&8 game. People act like he is Jared Jeffries/Shandon Anderson offensively. Also I said Fish loves what he brings to the team in terms of leadership and professionalism going back to their days together in OKC

A good piece to have for your team. You also hear from this or that source that he is a good locker room guy.

From Coach K:

“All of a sudden someone’s going to really like Lance, whether they draft him or bring him to camp and keep him because he’s almost 6-9, he’s got great energy. He’s really improved offensively. He’s a glue guy and he can play defense and he can defend multiple positions. I think he’s our most versatile defender. We have him guarding from centers to point guards.”

Did not know he was a McDonald's All-American...and that he also played in China.

You know that he's going to make a "scratch your head" play now an then, but in general, he's been pretty solid for us, and you can be sure that he's going to give you max effort no matter how many minutes he plays.

I was surprised when he emerged as a solid player last year, but you could see his shooting evolve as he got more time on the court, and you could see all the little things he did that probably won Fisher and Phil over.

Hopefully he continues to shoot wisely and well - if he does, he's going to get solid minutes because of all the other things he can do.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

Not lying when I say I not in the least surprised it's occurring.

Watched too much NBA basketball to know the light coming on is actually a fairly common occurrence in years 1-5.

Ok ... I will say that I would be lying if I claimed that I saw this coming. LT looked like a real stiff / way undersized.

The 3pt shot is new. Glad he worked on it. Should help him see more minutes if he keeps it up

Question - think the Oklahoma Thunder (who played him significantly last Oct-Nov), Derek Fisher, Phil Jackson, and CGJr. all were fooling themselves and the Knicks just got 1000:1 lucky by acquiring him, playing him, talking him up, and making him part of their plan for this year?

Or maybe they saw something you didn't?

But stupid can still knock down shots and make life miserable for an opponent.

That is a great quote from Coach K. Hopefully the Knicks found another glue guy. Imagine if Lance ends up being the best two way player in the Shump/Smith trade.

Lance is great so long as we dont pay him like Shandon Anderson or Jared Jefferies. As a vet min or low exception he's great. Part of what is making him so good is cost.

If he's come this far in an offseason, why put a cap on what he'll be by the end of this season.

Let's not make the same mistake and assumed he's reached this ceiling.

Knicks fans talk a big game about defense, they just never want to pay for it.

arent you the guy that says 8 games means nothing? He's been in the league a few years and will be 28 next year. Whats the expecation? I was actually one of the few who was fine with Lance being here. I wont go so far as to say I was an advocate, but some were really killing Phil for bringing him back over NDour or others with "more upside." My arguement was simply with so many new guys you need stability and the coaches need guys they know understand the system. Thus Lance and Lou.

I have no problem with paying for defense. I fully endorsed the Rolo signing at that money. Rolo is a rim protector though, and that costs more. Lance is a guy who defends well and is hitting some shots. He brings it but certainly hasnt been a stopper. You dont want to undervalue your own guys, but you dont want to overpay them either. At least not the role guys.

Yes, but the defense isn't new. It's always been there.

Offensively, yes, it could be an aberration. Who the hell knows. 8 games is not enough. But no sense in determining his market value now, is my point.

You dont want to undervalue your own guys, but you dont want to overpay them either. At least not the role guys.

In a $89-then-$109 cap league, state-of-the-art Lance Thomas is worth more than $1.6m. Salaries are relative. ALL salaries are going up, significantly. Not just the max guys.
