Shooting the Knicks out of games. 1 good game out 5. No legs Melo should take a week or 2 off, maybe longer.

He's hurting the team the same way Kobe hurts the Lakers playing with no legs.

Speaking of Kobe:

You get your legs back by playing at game speed. It takes time. Resting doesn't solve the issue. If you lift once and are sore the next day, do you stop lifting until you are no longer sore? I can tell you don't play or never really have played organized basketball by these comments.

How many more games do the Knicks have to endure of this poor play then?

Will he starting hitting shots finally when they're too far out of contention?

Poor play or poor shooting? I assume you are saying they are hand and hand, even though i think while he shot poorly yesterday, he did not play poorly. He rebounded and defended well yesterday. But i would say it will take 10-15 games to get back into a rhythm where you will see him scoring like he did against washington more often. It's been 5 games back from major surgery remember, and what, 1 week of regular season basketball? So 10-15 games should be fair.

Is he playing great basketball right now. No.

However he is still averaging 7.8rbs 3.4ass 1.2stls and getting to the line 7 times a game. Harden has been awful, Kobe looks like a freshman in High School so lets give the guy a little more time coming off a major knee injury. He will find his rythm.

Signed through 2018=19. Potentially up to 324 more, including 78 this season.

I'll ask again in what universe do you envision the NY Knicks sitting Carmelo Anthony and is this forum the Stargate to that universe?

the way you get the most out of him is twofold: (1)you put a cap on his minutes of 30-32 max. let him play hard and never coast. he gets, winded he sits. his conditioning has always an issue as it is. (2)and you (fisher) yank him when he takes two bad shots in a row by calling a face-saving timeout. he does that often enough. play hard but learn how to play smart and change behavior patterns. you do that by sitting him. maybe he will get the message and tighten up his game, which is not tight at all.

C'mon! This is the 124 million dollar stallion being coached by a nobody. The day he sits him after to bad shots would be his last day.

You KNOW that will not happen.

Again, why are fans so fixated on calling for things they know won't occur?

no i don't know it will not happen. fisher is a winner, jackson is a winner. this is melo's last chance to prove he can lead but that will require his willingness to change his approach and not be a coach killer. so it's shyt or get off the pot for him. fisher has leverage should he decide to exert it. just my humble opinion.

fisher has already called at least one timeout in the wake of melo making two bone-headed plays. i can't remember which game it was but it was towards the end of the first quarter i believe. so we have a precedent, of sorts. and while fisher has a more immediate challenge with calderon and vujacic, the course of the franchise over this season and the next will likely hinge on melo's ability to tighten up his game.

i as a fan am "fixated" because i KNOW this is the only way the knicks can win a title with melo in a knick uniform. the alternative is him being a sixth man and remaining the same player he is now but simply bullying bench players. i am totally cool with that.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

fisher is a sophomore coach but as a player he has several rings. does that not count for something?

I hope that he will be a better coach than he was a player. Extremely overrated in my opinion and a player who took horrible shots that for some reason people don't remember about.

No, unless he yanked him to of the game, which is ACTUALLY what you suggested, there is no precedent.

Did he?

Anthony is playing his 13th year. He is what he is at this stage. Winning and offensive execution goes a long way in this case. When things are flowing well, Melo will go with the flow. When thing are going bad, Melo is going to revert to old habits and dare I say, so will his teammates. The trick at this stage is to gather enough talent and get the team to buy in so the good nights outnumber the bad.

Anyone who thinks a strategy of shaming a 13 year veteran who whether you happen to agree or not is respected by his peers is going to elevate the Knicks franchise around the league, I just don't know what you're thinking about other than petulance.

All of this talk will go away when Melo gets it going. This team is far from where it's gonna be when they fully gel and get it going. Despite the poor shooting right now Melo is doing other things. But enough of this crap! How bout that KP? Huh?

Amazing part is it's universal - to any team, any sport. The people who watch the most seem to actually comprehend the least. What all of us should know about how the game is played over SEASONS is ignored after each and every single game… and in some cases even quarters and innings.

This is true for both good and bad performances.

Many different versions of this quote- I've seen "you" in place of "people" at times:

You're never as good as people think you are when you're winning and never as bad as people think you are when you're losing.

The player performance corollary to this would be that "you're never as good as your best game nor as bad as your worst."

How many times do guys around here make note of a good performance by this or that player, especially those on other teams (or so it would seem to me) who they like or wanted the Knicks to trade for/draft/sign, and then ignore their bad performance a day or two later. Same is true for those who only bring up the bad performances of someone they don't like.

5 games into an 82 game regular season. Some good, bad, and ugly play and performances so far, but there is a long time to go before we have enough evidence to declare it to be a failure or success.

The 2 week hiatus is extreme, by the way, but I did suggest in another thread that Anthony should get a day off now and then...at least until he is in better shape physically. Seems to be a smart thing to do while he is still in recovery mode.

What gets me is that the people who constantly attack our top players (Melo is only the latest in a long line to get this treatment- Ewing, Houston etc etc), are the same people who cry when top players decide they don't want to sign with us. Would I honestly want to play for fans like them? Nope.

Where's the report to moderator button? I don't see any contribution to this thread. This is blasphemy by fishmike!

Stupid troll attempt by fishmike aside, I hope Melo realizes sooner rather than later that he doesn't have to do it all this season. Hopefully when Afflalo comes, we'll see this change in him.

Not sure if he fully trusts the yoots yet, for whatever reason.

I don't know about optimistic, but if you had them down for losing 2 of every 5 games against the league at large, the fact they held what you define as serve for these very tough first five games SHOULD be a source of encouragement for you.

And Fisher and Jackson are going to "deal" with Melo by starting him and playing him 34-38 mins a night. I don't think anyone genuinely believes otherwise. I think any arguments suggesting "strategy" to handle Melo is strictly for internet fights only, and I think you know it.

I think any arguments suggesting "strategy" to handle Melo is strictly for internet fights only, and I think you know it.

nice try... bringing logic and reason into an argument when Melo is the topic with those two posters is an exercise in futility. You MUST be new. Good post regardless and great handle. I believe DK should only address you as mr. big balls

Signed through 2018=19. Potentially up to 324 more, including 78 this season.

I'll ask again in what universe do you envision the NY Knicks sitting Carmelo Anthony and is this forum the Stargate to that universe?

(2)and you (fisher) yank him when he takes two bad shots in a row by calling a face-saving timeout. he does that often enough. play hard but learn how to play smart and change behavior patterns. you do that by sitting him. maybe he will get the message and tighten up his game, which is not tight at all.

Still NOT going to happen and I think you DO know it.

fisher has already called at least one timeout in the wake of melo making two bone-headed plays. i can't remember which game it was but it was towards the end of the first quarter i believe. so we have a precedent, of sorts.

Anyone who thinks a strategy of shaming a 13 year veteran who whether you happen to agree or not is respected by his peers is going to elevate the Knicks franchise around the league, I just don't know what you're thinking about other than petulance.

i'll see your shaming and petulance and raise you resignation and cynicism.

seriously though, it's all a game to me, ie seeing how fisher and jackson deal with melo and vice-versa... because i don't foresee any significant achievement while melo as a starter on the knicks anyway.

i have them down for 34 wins this year, how about you?

Small balls? Playing Smello 34-38 minutes is a recipe for disaster. If he got no legs this early in the season, he'll need to be amputated at the knee by mid season.

Let's please limit our favorite no legs chucker closer to 30 minutes or less, he's 31 years old you know.

He's averaging 34 at the moment and will likely creep up from here. A few maintainence days off here and there will not effect his mins-per avg.

And so far its been a recipe for exactly what you guys expected record-wise against an inordinately tough schedule.

Again, I don't know why you guys are fixated on arguing for things you KNOW aren't going to happen. The point of it eludes me.

It shouldn't creep up, it should creep down. He's old as the dirt.

YOU don't know that it's not going to happen either. So why argue with why we're fixated on arguing?

Shooting the Knicks out of games. 1 good game out 5. No legs Melo should take a week or 2 off, maybe longer.
