There's also the fact that some guys, like Korver, don't need a whole lot of time to set themselves, square up or anything like that at all. They just have the knack. They don't need a whole lot of room to operate. You just have to straight up chase them around and be up their butt the entire time and deny the ball from getting in their hands in the first place. With some guys, it just comes down to that.

Ding Ding Ding. That is what I am saying. Stay with your man. We have bigs that are good at protecting the rim.

ah ... but our big 7 footers our being stretched out to the arc and can't help when their guards take our guards off the dribble. And, if they try, havoc!

don't know why this is so complicated. Briggs thinks that our 7 footers are just sitting and waiting to help under the basket cause thats where their man is. It does not work like that anymore.

Only Horford was stretching our center. KP can still protect the paint.

Early has the length and agility to defend Korver. He should have been out there.

I kind of agree with this. The only thing that bugs me about this is the fact that we all know Early is also more than capable of fouling him while he's taking the shot. You know it's going to happen at least once. But, I'd be willing to put up with that if it meant that in exchange he could prevent 3 or more attempts in return.

what he gives you in one on one coverage he gives away on defensive rotations. he does not see the floor very well at all.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

guess which philosophy is ours?

Do you know because based on pre-season and the 1st two games your observation on the Knicks are off. Their mid range shots are down and 3s are up and they also switch on D. There were times ast night that they fell to communicate and execute some switches though.

I do think the bigs should start traping the ball handler on more PnRs like teams automatically trap/ice the Knicks song PnR out of the triangle when the ball handler is in the low wing or corner.

I agree. I wish Early had gotten some run earlier and he seems like a better fit to defend Korver. Fisher does have a pretty big rotation though. He is playing 10 guys and Lance has been earning his minutes.

Korver has been hitting 3s on folks for a long time, now. Went back to look at the game. The first one he hit had Sasha right in his face- can't play D better than that, but it went in.

Korver also moves around more than many 3 pt shooters who stand around and wait for the ball to be kicked out or swung around to them. He uses picks to get free as well as anyone.

Was Lance guarding Korver at all?

Would not have minded putting a smaller player on Korver, too.

If I remember correctly Lance was on the 4 and sometimes on the 5 on defense. I don't remember him covering Korver.

You have to have help D in the NBA and there have to be shots you can live with giving up. You can't take away everything. It all depends on matchups. Most teams run heavy PNR so it all depends on what PNR coverage you use. Against MCW and Monroe, I would go under and through to make MCW and Monroe shoot, and guard the drive. Then there are no defensive rotations and no Copeland or Middleton open. We did that at times against the bucks.

Against Atlanta it's tougher. You absolutely have to deny Korver everything. So when they go high PNR with Teague or Schroder you can't be predictable. I would switch it and make them beat you. If they become too effective, I woukd ice the PNR where you force it sideline/baseline but you can be vulnerable to the pick and pop, so that's where you have to pick your poison bevause Paul and Al can kill you from outside.

You can always hedge or trap the guard which is great to mix in but isn't an effective defense anymore for long stretches with the shooting and spacing of teams.

Also keeping the ball away from the middle and only helping from the weakside is key. Consistency and discipline are important. That's how you limit teams from lighting it up

That game look like we were unprepared, what exactly was the game plan? did the players follow it, or was it a stupid plan to begin with, because detroit handle them easy the previous night. kOVER WAS 1 FOR 7 AGAINST DETROIT and drummond had 19 rebounds.

Lopez, for all his defensive strengths, refuse to close out on harford, and your blaming calderone. If i'm a PG with two 7 footers covering for me, im going to gamble way more than if i didnt

They had the previous night off and were coming off a loss. They needed the win. The Knicks played the night before and traveled back home after a big win. The Hawks also won 60 games last year and are the better team at this point. I wanted a win but the loss wasn't surprising. I really wish the NBA wouldn't schedule the home opener on the back end of a back to back with travel.

They were off for 5 days straight, and your rotation is 10/11 guys, fatigue on the 2nd game of the season is a complete cop out.

We did not defend smart as a team, and when that happens, the game plan goes into question

I think fatigue was a factor. I also think the Hawks are a better team and really needed a win after losing their opener, and were rested compared to the Knicks.

1) Realize that NBA guards can hit shots when bigs are in their faces.
2) Just put your hand up in their face in hopes they forget that they can hit shots when contested.
3) Make sure you are fit and athletic enough to get there to do that.
4) Do your best to do that.
5) Stop caring what us fans think about NBA defenses.
6) Realize you are probably being paid millions and get your f'ing ars in gear to contest shots.

Was Lance guarding Korver? I honestly don't know who was guarding him because he was always wide open.

Lance guarded Korver some in the second qtr and some in the 2nd half

Defending the pick and roll and resulting 3s starts well before the screen comes.

1) Defend from the inbound without trapping to cut shot clock. Keep teams from running multiple pick and rolls on 1 possession.

2) a) Deny the preferred ball handler by fronting pre-catch with length and maintain a "partial" team help position to hedge against the backdoor. Keep the catch away from the middle of the court to limit the pick approach and drive angles.

b) If the preferred handler has control of the ball coming up the court, intercept the route of the preferred pick man and zone the weakside with 1 defender. Be prepared for a counter weakside curl/flare play and switch weakside assignments as necessary.

c) The on-ball defender: Angle the stance in advance to guide the ball handler into the pick.

Know the weaknesses of each strategy and space the defense in anticipation of the threat. Have designated individuals with a view of the offense (1 strong side floor, 1 weakside floor and 1 on the bench) alert the defense - i.e. horns, weakside action etc.

Being able to guard multiple positions is a clear plus. KP has the brains and mobility to be a huge asset in this regard.

Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.
