I would really love to see Melo start racking up some assists. We all know that he can score but when he is off, what then?

Please Melo!! I am begging you get me some damn assists!

I thought he looked terrible..He was 3-9 and added nothing else to the offense..There is now flow when he has the ball..He doesn't create for anyone..It either he hits the J or nothing..He rebounds tho..

This is what I felt about this roster just looking at the make up of the team, but after seeing them play together it just reinforced how I felt about the traits and skills of the players and how they could work together. This is why I felt that many in the media took a lazy approach to analyzing this team. You can't just say, "well they only won 17 games last year so..." You have to take a fresh look at the roster and how these particular players can fit together.

The 1st thing I think should've been noticed is the improvement in character, talent, size and passing ability. The type of players being better defenders and rebounders and more team oriented shouldn't be overlooked. People made fun of the idea of Culture Change but it's a process and Phil had to bring in guys that fit his philosophy. I'm excited to see this team continue to develop.

I think a weakness we have on offense and defense is the 3pt line.

We have a hard time defending the 3.

We have a hard time making the 3.

Lopez and KP would help resolve these issues. Lopez allows others to push up on their man. KP spreads the floor and opens the court for himself and others. But when they are out, those weaknesses are clear. We have athletes off the bench, but we need Sasha and Calderon to develop a consistent 3 pt shot.

Don't you think their development is already over like 10 years already...

I haven't really followed Affalo's career, but here's hoping that he brings much needed cohesiveness to the 1st unit at both ends of the court. Philly guards were getting any shot they wanted, inside or outside as Calderone and Vusavic had difficulty stopping shots or penetration. I also saw signs of futility at the beginning of the 3rd quarter as our lead slipped away. We turned offensively inept, unable to get free for shots, leading Fisher to make wholesale changes in the lineup. AA is going to have to bring moer then a gimpy hamstring to the table, or we're going to have an even bigger problem.

Observation:
Derrick Williams and Melo are our best players right now.
I still like starting KP with Melo better though defensively. Derrick and Melo can be good too. They just need to find Derrick when he's cutting to the basket

Post-game observation:

With Afflalo out this long, do we start Vujacic at shooting guard to start the season?

As much as I appreciate his feistiness, Vujacic and Calderon in the backcourt is a recipe for disaster most games. Neither defends well, both slow as molasses, and neither appear to look decent offensively so far in the pre-season. You're basically praying one of them hits their Js on a game to game basis. If Melo's off, look for alot of 1st quarter holes to dig out of.

RoLo looks to be as advertised. Just him in the middle deters alot of easy buckets by the other team. Any offense from RoLo, especially that 18 footer is a phucking bonus.

KP being hurt and sitting is just a precaution, though I can eventually see a plan, where he sits a game ala Popovich style. Like sits the third game in a 3 games in 4 nights type deal. Just keeping your 20 yr old investment intact is all.

DWill...wow! Pre-season and all I know, but maybe there's room to remove the "bust" label yet. His ultimate role could be 6th/7th man energizer bunny. JR Smith as a power forward without the clubbing, knuckleheadedness, or drug use.

Jerian....what else can you say. Guy's the real deal. Jim Boeheim said if Jerian had a jumper he'd be top 5 in the draft. Phil Jax with the steal of the draft so far. Start Jerian off the bench for now for the regular season, and if/when Jose goes down....it's Jerian time!

I was feeling positive about how the preseason is going, until I looked at our opening regular season schedule: Bucks, Hawks, Wizards, Spurs, Cavs, Bucks- it's going to be a tough start.

3-3 would be a great start. Realistic would be 2-4 or 1-5.

I know, right? Why didn't they just make it Spurs, Warriors, Rockets and Thunder for the first 4 games? We'll see what happens though.

The question as far as Calerderon at PG is how long can he last getting starter's minutes? How did trying to start Kidd for an entire season work out? Only preseason, but I was glad to see Grant being allowed to finish the game. If you want Calerderon ready for a possible playoff run its best not to run him into the ground before then.

As well as things are going with Williams so far, want to see what happens if he starts going into a slump, how he responds.

O'Quinn is one strong dude. He took a hard hit to the face under the rim and brushed it off like it was nothing.

Thought about it. We can take the Bucks and the Wizards. We might even be able to take the Cavs if Kyrie is still out by then. We could somewhat realistically be looking at 3-3.
