KD didn't just refute the statements he called SAS a Liar, so he attacked SAS's credibility, which insured a full response. If KD had just let it go, it wouldn't have escalated but rather would die down like most rumors. Now it's an ongoing scandal because of the SAS response.

Maybe Durant doesn't give a crap about SAS or what his reaction would be and wanted to clarify things?

I'm sure that's what he may have been thinking but I also think taking just a second to pause and think he could've made his point without calling SAS a Liar. It's impossible to really shut down a rumor by inflaming the source who has a daily TV show. It's counter productive. If KD ignores the rumor or passes it off as just another rumor the issue would fade away as they always do. A person can escalate or de-escalate a situation and being a Vet KD should know all the ways to shut down a rumor without escalating it.

Likewise, SAS could have ended it with a 1 minutes "I'm not lying, this is what I was told". Instead we get that 22 minute gem.

Both guys are calling the other a liar over nothing particularly note worthy.

Melo did that and they are STILL asking him every interview if he's asking for a trade. No, that doesnt work, and often unaddressed rumors pick up steam.

I didn't just say that KD should ignore it. I also said KD could pass it off as another rumor WITHOUT maligning SAS character. That's the part I'm talking about that really made the issue worse. I understand responding to the rumor and refuting it, but you don't have to push the point beyond that. Saying SAS is a Liar was the unnecessary inflammatory statement in his response. That's real my point. The manner in which KD responded was too harsh and he had to know it would only raise the level of SAS's response to be called a liar. It's the worst thing you can say about a reporter.

Calling the guy a liar was harsh. So was publishing a report without going to the source - Durant - and just asking him about it.

Maybe Durant wanted to stop all the rumors in the future too, this surely will do it, or at least make someone think twice on it. Does Durant have anything to lose?

KD is unique world class athlete and celebrated figure. SAS is regular shmak which are available in bunches.
