I would like to see the young core that won a championship in 3, 4, 5 yrs

Until Kristaps is starting c with his body and game filled out we are not winning anything. We especially have no chance putting so much stock into Calderon and Lopez.if the goal is to win 35-42 games were there. But the upside is not its tapped Anthony will not get younger and we will need secondary and or multiple retools

Calderon's contract becomes a very tradable if he has at least a solid season, even if he doesn't have a good season, he's a solid back up on any contender, good for a late 1st rounder, next off season when every single team will have some sort of cap space do you really think his contract will be a problem.

Besides, where you expecting phil to round up the perfect roster

I think we blew the opportunity to make our defense going forward special. I don't like spending so much on Lopez when we had bigger problem areas.Just my opinion

In Phil's opinion A defensive Center, which ended up being RoLo, was the highest priority. With So few capable Centers it's understandable that you'd have to pay good money for one. Thing is, RoLo wasn't really that expensive. RoLo's cost, relative to his importance, is really not bad at all. RoLo and KP at C and PF is a very good defensive pair for the next few years. Good skill, length and defensive range for 7'ers. Add in O'Quinn, Seraphin this year and then he has Willy coming in next year as well. In the Front Court this team should be solid defensively. This group will help make everyone else better defensively. Phil knows this from experience. It should be crystal clear how important it is to be strong defensively in the Front Court. Our guards and wings will have plenty of support behind them. It should make the team stronger defensively.

Seems Phil omitted in the "Phil files" the play of Jose Calderon. I wonder how this team is going to focus on defense with possibly the worst defensive starter in the NBA?

"Hurt himself in training camp and had that same Achilles issue all season that bothered him physically and emotionally. He's a quality starting point guard, with good balance, a terrific shot and excellent judgment. Jose had an especially good on-court connection with Melo, knowing how to find good shots for him. I project Jose as playing 26-28 minutes per game, but we will have to provide him with a bit more defensive support. He's under contract and I'm happy to have him back."

Pretty sure Phil understands Jose and what he offers and doesn't.

It's a process BRIGGS. Phil inherited a **** team and is slowly changing it. You don't go and turn around a team in 1 year. Our bigs rotation is much better, wing players will need to be addressed. But that's expected and not outright neglect, right?

I agree. It's a process. IMO too much is being made of last year when literally everything went wrong. Jose getting injured really set things back for him and the team. I do find it funny that people seem to think that Phil Jackson of all people isn't aware of the strengths and weaknesses of his players. Phil has always been a great judge of talent and almost like a scout of pro players. That doesn't mean that the Player will always work out, but Phil is usually right about the skills the player has and what his talent should allow him to do. That's how you not only win titles but sustain winning over time.

In the brief time that Jose was healthy he looked good. I suspect that Phil is hoping that he can get a lot out of Jerian, Gallo and Jose with all of them sharing the load and no one being overworked. Then you also have Afflalo and Sasha who have vet experience. I think as a group our guards are more solid than last year. Not the sexy names some might want but they should be able to provide solid production. Last year was a mess. Hopefully we won't see a repeat of the poor guard production of last season.
