Out on a limb a little bit (although maybe not) -- a pretty good player comparison to Alexey Shved: Michael Carter-Williams. Both go about 6'6" 190 (funny how I don't hear a lot about MCW's need to get a lot stronger), both have similar skills/games (similar strengths and weaknesses up to this point) and similar per 36 minute production. MCW is probably the better defender, expectations are much higher for MCW (lottery pick vs. undrafted player/Euro. signing) but all in all, very similar....Funny how MCW is the much more highly thought-of player but to me, there's really not that much of a difference between the two ability-wise when you get right down to it. Don't get me wrong -- I can see exactly what people like about MCW--I just felt the same way about Shved when he was here. I would've been interested to see what Shved could've done in the NBA for real with 34-36 mins a night and about 15 shot attempts a game. My guess is he'd come pretty close to MCW's production, maybe even surpass it in certain categories (overall scoring, FT attempts per). MCW continues to struggle shooting the ball with that amount of PT; Shved, meanwhile, may have calmed down and performed even better given more minutes. You can make a pretty good argument that we let our own version of MCW walk out the door over $2.8 million bucks..
Curious what you guys think -- fair comparison or no?
