barkley comes across primarily as an entertainer but he has a keen basketball mind and should not be dismissed just because he mocks the laughingstock knicks. shaq and smith are also fine basketball monds, and don't forget chris webber who i also think is great, including his color commentating. it'd be hard to fathom the shows popularity and ratings and emmy awards without there being some underpinning of substance. his book "i may be wrong but i doubt it" is a great read, too.

just sayin'

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

It's a coin flip 50/50 guess really, so Barkley is making a "smart" prediction actually.

Hey, I called it already, before the Barkley tweet. I got the first round on the line! That means if they make the playoffs, I get a free beer from everybody! Pick and spot and I'm there! I'm only 3.5 hrs away! 50 dollar greyhound ride.

Yeah, but are we better than half the league?

Yeah, but are we better than half the league?

you don't have to be better than half the league you just have to be better than 7 other teams in the eastern conference.

the nba rewards mediocrity and lately sub-mediocrity. that's entertainment

The Brooklyn Nets made the playoffs in the Leastern Conference with 38 wins, so making the playoffs is not a great accomplishment.

Just be glad the Knicks have a legitimate chance at playoff bball in the weak east. In the western conference, 50 wins doesn't guarantee a a playoff spot sometimes!

I could see the East falling like this:

1) Cleveland
2) Miami
3) Atlanta
4) Chicago
5) Washington
6) Milwaukee
7) Raptors
8) Pacers
9) Knicks
10) Celtics
11) Pistons
12) Hornets
13) Magic
14) Nets
15) Sixers

I think the Knicks could be in a dog fight with Indy and the Raptors for those bottom two seeds. Also, Chicago could slip - new coach, you never know about Rose, etc.

I think Chicago could actually improve. Fred hoiberg is a good coach. Derrick rose sucks and I think the team might be better off without him.

Atl could fall, as could Indy. Hornets should rise.
Pistons fall.

Miami a 2nd seed? Winslow and Dragic that much more improved? Amare too?

We'll find out soon enough!

As long as George is healthy Indy are practically guaranteed to make the playoffs. Us falling to 9th seed seems likely unless we see a change from Melo.

I'm assuming Bosh is healthy. Bosh and Dragic never got to play together.

Indy lost its entire starting front court. I like PG13, but I'm not sure he moves the needle any more than Melo does on a team's record. If you compare the rest of the rosters, you could argue Knicks have a stronger roster than Indy. It's very close - I think each team will be neck and neck.

Also, a lot of people expect continued improvement from the Bucks (as do I), but they're a young team and young teams sometimes don't develop on a straight line. Also, Monroe is gonna kill their frontcourt defense.

paul george is an elite glue player, an elite playmaker and defender. and a superb character guy.

if he can raise his 3-point shooting to closer to 40% he will become mvp of the league one day, providing he returns 100%.

if i could i would swap melo for paul george faster than the speed of light.

You have to question his character though. Accused of sleeping with Hibberts girl, caught in a catfish scheme, and I believe was open about not wanting Stephenson back. Rumors were that what was going on between Hibbert and George brought that team/locker room down.

Making the playoffs though would mean we hit on many of our new additions. Making the playoffs even in the weak east and under the format they have with rookies like Grant and KP6 is way different then making the playoffs with veteran team. Would also mean Affalo and Williams or Quinn and or Lopez all had good seasons. Would mean the triangle was successful. And that Phil was able to find gems for low budget prices whicg the TRI opened up there games. Given the ages and value we got most of these guys at. Making the playoffs would be a big accomplishment for Phil.

yes these are unsavory events that do make one wonder. on a skill level and on defensive effort and heart i would still do that deal.

I think dk might mean character on the the court, however , the stuff I hear about off the court is quite concerning.

I would easily do a George for melo trade provided that George recovere fully back to his normal self.
