This will help the team. Hes a little under rated and can score some with thta big body as well which we did not have. Gives us a little of enforcer. Can play BOTh 4-5 so we can put him out there at times as a double big or play him with Porzingis as a running mate to protect him a bit.

Kevin Seraphin is the prototypical pf/center. If you could build a complete one, he's it....no frills.

His knock 2 years ago was confidence. Last year he was stuck behind vets, but he played very confident and strong pf/c for Washington in limited mins.

Kid is only 25, he has the grooming and experience. Time to see what he can do. Absolutely love this kid

Only thing I did not like from the clips I've been watching is that once he decides to pound it down low in the post, he seems oblivious to other players. You know that is something they will work on with him, and probably talked to him about before the signing.

You do see an assortment of hook shots from him, though, that rarest of interior shots, and something I always like to see from a big man.

With Lopez, OQuinn, Seraphin, and even Amundson, we now have some guys who like to mix it up in the middle.

Nice pickup by Phil.

Some immediate reactions from Washington fans:

Good Point, Big Butt and Low post abilities. Someone here said his D is good too.

Did you notice that RoLo was defending him on many of his 19 points. RoLo looked "SoSlow".

Good signing, he performed well for Washington when called upon. Young and capable.

Has the Lopez brothers footwork...but he was in position for the most part. Lopez wasn't guarding him for most of his scores. Did not close out well on one of his midrange Js, though.
EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

That wasn't RoLo in most of those scores. That was Freeland. RoLo only had him a man to man on 2 of those shots and on a 3rd one RoLo was caught helping and Seraphin hit an open jumper with RoLo closing out on him. Besides, RoLo is a much bigger and slower guy but really it had more to do with Seraphin being a tricky guy to guard. He has a lot of offensive tools and he's shooting on the way up to make it tougher. RoLo is a top notch rim protector statistically and that's what we got him for.

One of the better ALL ROUND PF/C's on both OFF and DEF, with youth but can contribute right now and be part of our roster moving forward
Though Lopez is our ONLY LEGIT Center, both Seraphin and Kyle O Quin could play both PF and Center, then we still have KP and the mighty Lou Amundson

Would like to add Dorrell Wright to a 2year vet min deal if possible, possible team option as Phil Jackson seems to be hesitant on giving up salary cap space for next summers extra 20m in cap space to pursue FA's
He was once a sniper with good length/athleticism, while playing with both Lopez and Affalo last year, and with Robin Lopez for a couple of seasons with chemistry for some depth at SG/SF
Or look to add a PG/SG that could penetrate/facilitate with consistency to INITIATE our OFFENSE as we still do not have a DOMINANT POST PRESENCE or a guard capable of penetrating and finishing, with the ability to create for the team and facilitate with consistency
With only Grant, which is a NBA ROOK, while Galloway/Calderon both lack the speed/quickness to create and penetrate with consistency
This is by far our greatest weakness and that is why not resigning Shved makes little sense while we used 3m in cap space for Lance Thomas and Lou Amundson
Despite the success he had late last season and could be a cost friendly contract

I just can not see Early playing the SG consistently with his lack of a handle, inability to create his own shot or for the team, and lacking speed/quickness to defend GUARDS
Though another team could use him for further development, I think we are
After using the room exemption, it means that we could only offer a contract that is in the minimum for Thanasis at about 500k, despite taking much less money to develop in the Triangle/D League last year as Phil Jackson requested

I think Thanasis could play SG over Early and is worth developing, though we can try to build up his trade value up first and non guaranteed contract, possibly along with either Lance Thomas or Lou Amundson for players such as James Johnson or Evan Turner, with the depth that both rosters have, both would be serviceable and fill a need for us

I thought Melo was going to play PF this year

im a big fan of this kid. underrated big man off the bench (kinda like OQuinn). these are the types of signings i appreciate. good job phil
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Jerian is gonna be expected to play and should be able to do a much better job than Larkin who started a lot of games early. I think people are underestimating him.

Galloway is not slow and he's one of the more athletic guards.

Early is a SF.

I never thought i'd see the day where I was happy with where both my Knicks and Mets are at with the future looking bright for both.

Oh happy days.

the one thing i liked about phil signings, all these guys previous teams fans have nothing but good things to say about them, unlike Knick fans who crucify every player we trade of let go

Fixed what I think you would add to this point.

I don't know that I would call either Robin or Seraphin legit centers - but I like that we have added a lot of physical presence that should help prevent us from being pushed around all the time.

Knixkik wrote:Nice pickup. Very similar to signing Jason Smith last summer. No risk, solid upside.

Upside
- Still young
- Willing to bang
- Good tool set/motor
- Offers some rim protection

Downside
- Inconsistent
- Struggles to read the floor on both ends
- Misses a lot of defensive assignments
- Does not possess the recovery speed needed to compensate for lack of saavy
- Poor shot selection
- Does not traffic well in close contact near the rim offensively

Given STAT and Bargs aversion to any kind of real contact, I will always appreciate a big willing to bang.

However not sure this kid is suited for the Triangle offense. There are a lot of automatic passes in the Triangle and not sure this kid will ever pick it up at all.

Still believe Phil Jackson could have waited out guys like Derrick Williams and Seraphin a while longer and gotten a more leveraged contract situation with them.

Robert Upshaw will not likely make the Lakers and Christian Wood probably won't make the Rockets. There will be more guys later who won't cut the mustard with more talented rosters and honestly wish the Knicks left more space open for young prospects.

There's a reason he was available, that has to temper expectations. That being said, let's see if he can help this team by being willing to give up his body and bang it out to save some wear and tear on Lopez and O'Quinn.

He also has relatively low bball IQ, so I wouldn't get our hopes to high, but it is still.a nice signing though

I Like RoLO and the few baskets against him, he looked slow, that's all. Plus I like the rhyme, RoLo SoSlo...

Seraphin is a lot to handle down low, big butt and has post moves. It's another smart move for a professional level player. NY may not be great but they are filled with guys who can play and that is what the triangle needs, BBall professionals.

I am looking forward to it coming together. I will be surprised if they do not make the playoffs.
