There's a pretty interesting movie by Rod Lurie called The Contender, which has an All Star cast, where the sitting President, Jeff Bridges, wants to bring in a woman, Joan Allen, for Vice President in his administration.
One of the interesting subplots wasn't Allen's character, but Bridges character. He wanted to be "known" for being the progressive President, and that enduring legacy, of bring a woman into the White House.
It was more about his ego, his standing, his view on his own name across history, than actually wanting to be progressive.
Unfortunately, Becky Hammond will be a pawn in a game of interests around the league and it's corporate sponsors to self fabricate a narrative to garner the most legacy inducing marketing power possible.
I won't deny the power of good coaching. A Rick Carlisle or a Chuck Daly or a John Wooden or Coach K, you can see there are rare individuals who can motivate and elevate a team greater than just a sum of it's parts, but most NBA coaches succeed on raw talent on their rosters.
