An article that includes the tax implications for the cavs if they resign JR. http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/19/j-r-smith-is-still-a-free-agent-about-to-take-a-healthy-pay-cut/

He'll be 30 in a couple of months. Given his game won't age well ( he's not a high BB IQ player by any stretch) , taking less per year across more years might end up working out for him. He opted out at 6.4, but if he got something like a 3 years for 15 million, under the going rate for NBA starting wings, but locked him in when who can say what would happen after this season, I don't see that as a total loss for him and his agent.

I still think he's a complete risk for going rogue, signing a minimum deal with the Clippers and chase a ring. Also it might suit his not so subtle gang ties and he can gas it with the Fast And Furious crowd down there.

Remember Hubert Davis? Good soldier. Kept his mouth shut. Worked hard. Never gave up, never stop trying, never relented. Just not a whole ton of talent. Imagine Davis if he had JR Smith's physical skill set across life.

The tragedy is JR Smith will have to look back on his player career with regret with what he could have been. The humor of course is that part where he might not be bright enough to realize he should have regret.

jr smith is just a clown with money... for now. there isn't enough crow for him to eat when the time comes, and it surely will ya ha ha

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

To have traded him for virtually nothing tells all you need to know about the negative value that was attached to the guy in the eyes of Phil and Fisher.

On a Knicks team that Phil and Fisher were trying to put through a cultural revolution, Smith may not have been trash, but he was a cancer of the worst type.

Unfortunately, when getting rid of Smith, Shumpert had to be the collateral damage and get shipped away too. (Glad that he did well with his new contract- however ridiculous it was).

Wonder if JR will keep this on his Twitter page if opting out turns out to be a mistake.

Seems Sacrmento or Dallas is the new bonehead team!

"YM" seems just like it was yesterday! I hope he is saving his money.

I would imagine he thought he could sign for less this year but get a multi year out of it. He might have an agent but he don't have to listen to him. JR, Rondo and Cousins just sounds like a lot of fun!!!

I think Memphis would be a good fit for him -
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

You have to think that while JR might not listen to his agent, he might have a bad agent as well - because who would want to put up with JR as a client????

If he hasn't signed any multi year contract by now, I think he'll have to settle for like a 1 or 2 year min vet deal since the money is starting to dry up across teams.

Cavs still have to sign their dudes, so we'll see if he's still in their plans.

now that they got rid of haywood and his 10.5 mill, theyll sign TT and JR
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Jr is in a position sort of like sprewell, he's gotten offers, but those offers came from bottom feeders, and he wants no part of non contending teams.

Did we even use the trade exception we got for him, I still think it was one of the worse trades phil made, but i understand why he did it, phil just wasn't savvy enough to get more.

Ha, it seems so long ago that peeps were complaining that JR was jettisoned for nothing. He is the biggest idiot in the NBA.

could you imagine what MJ would do if one of his teammates showed up to a finals game riding a scooter?

it's strange to me the cavs would want him back.

The CAVS will do what LJ want , this is the problem with a league managed by players

I think its just that he was given some promise of an offer and teams usually are not in the business of screwing players out even though JR is who he is.
While they told him to not opt out, they can't just shut him out either. Come back with something is logical unless he is an outright problem.

Jordan would never tolerate it because Bulls usually did not put boneheads on the roster. He was given an opportunity but Phil exiled his deliquient ass out as he would not tolerate the clown antics.

Not sure what is happening with JR but saw this
