Amazing. No matter what the issues it always goes back to Melo. I would have agreed with you three years back. But watching Melo beat himself up with minutes, improve on defense and go through all the changes, got give him credit. And disagree, guys are looking at us only because of Melo and as apples to deciding not to come here because of him. You are right though, he should bolt. Should of signed a Lebron like contract with opt out and cashed in once TV money hit. And we would all be here hyping up all the misfits put together by a failing franchise. Our ridiculous attempt at big three. You need a good GM to put the right players together. And few would deny having a scorer like Melo on their team. Which I know Phil is doing. Everything does come back to Melo. It is absolutely on his shoulders. He's not some passive observer in this franchise. He's front and center with Fish and Jax. From every perspective, he needs to be more than 20 and 8 guy. He needs to be the team leader. There are a million reasons why it has nothing to do with. But the end of the day is that this is either his team or it's not. He got no superstar help. No all star said, I want to play in NY. so, he either needs to step up and take his game to superstar level or go be a sidekick. I'll give him every opportunity to step up, but it needs to be more than it has been. He has to make his teammates better. Or else.

Of the big name free agents that left their teams, how many went to states that have no state income tax? NYC has a city income tax as well and the media are vultures.

^^^ you are going to see the same movement from the high quality vets that take a vet mini deal. The state/city income tax discrepancy needs to be addressed by the league.

It absolutely needs to be addressed. I doubt it will though. Media makes up all these fairytale stories about pitches and fit, and playing for love/championships. One in a blue moon they will be like ohhh btw guy made 10 mil more going there. Smoke and mirrors and most fans buy in. I am not optomistic on change here. Jordan leaving should be a messgae to the league though, doubt anythj g will happen.

then carmelo anthiny should not have forced his way here in the first place. the hypocrisy you and crushalot are exhibiting is laughable.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

If you are saying it wasn't smart for him to come to a state that had a city and state income tax then I agree. When Lebron was being praised for taking less to play with the super friends he and Melo were netting the same amount because of the discrepancy in state/city income tax. Does it seem fair that a player should make 12 to 13% less to play in NY?

Forced his way? So.if you want to play for a specific team your forcing your way on. Come on. And no fault to negotiation skills of front office? The kid wanted to play for the Knicks and now you want to blame someone for doing so but in the same regard your blaming others for not coming. With the fan base and media here think I will agree with those who decide not to come. At least the whining fan base. There are still many like me that will defend anyone who is a Knick..Specially their main player

no point in talking about this issue as this is the bed carmelo anthiny has made for himself. he could have waited for free agency in 2011 and gone anywhere he wanted, even if it meant being a half-season rental someplace other than new york.

again in 2014 he could have gone anywhere he wanted but decided to stay here to make the most money possible and to continue to <snort> "build his brand," a-hole that he is.

but please go ahead and bitch about taxes in nyc, nys and irs as a viable pretext for the usual misdirection.

or instead you could actually face facts: it isn't the tax issue that is keeping free agents from coming to the knicks, it's the fact that melo is a criminally overpaid one-way player with no leadership skill, who is impossible to build a winner around or even with. he's on the wrong side of thirty, has shoulder and knee issues, and a dinosaur game of volume shooting and isolation play.

i have told you for months on end that no free agent of any stature-- lopez and afflalo?!?-- is coming here to play with carmelo anthiny and now it has come to fruition.

Makes no sense. So now your saying he doesnt take it upon himself in a team sport? The thing he gets criticized for soimg too often. Umm no. It takes more than one guy. You need a scorer who creates double teams. Melo one of the best. You need solid role players, consistent shooters and solid team defenders. None of which we have had. Name one player that surrounded by same cast would of done any better? How did LeBron do once Irving and Love out? Seem to forget when we won 54 games and we're one game from east finals he did okay with decent players around him. But last year's squad? You needed super hero as you said. Dream much? Like I said, we hopefully will build a better cast of players with specific roles, with Phil in charge. But not an overnight process as most impatient fans believe.

This isn't specific to Melo. It's true for every person that lives and works in a non tax free state.
Melo should be ecstatic if he nets the same money as Lebron because he deserves much much less. He isn't even on the same planet as Kebron as a basketball player.

I am so tired people making excuses for him.

Carmelo came here prior to the new CBA and players exploting the tax factor. Not ur fault you have trouble with basic math and live in a fairytale world. Nice effort though. Greatly appreciated

Ahole definition - guy who calls his teams superstar an ahole for making lots of money and expamding his brand. Ie. Bexoming a businessman. All based on the fact that suoerstat makes more mony in 10 minutes than he does ppating over 25k posts in said fan forum. Sidebar, lives in a one bedroom apartment with his mom.

Big talk from such an accomplished individual and known basketball man. I sure hope your not a Knick fan but a troll. If you are we will call you chicken little. Cuz it's seems like your the one bitchin about everything.

Can Melo change the fact that NY is offering less money? Can he get the media to back off for ayers who aren't interested in dealing with it? It is a cool story that you put together but these are the real issues.

Offering less money than who? Why would any player take less money when Melo took the max? I'm not against Melo, but he needs to step up. Saying things like 'Zinger can be my spot up shooter' makes him sound like a dope. Still, I am fine with him acting like that if he backs it up. You want Zinger to be your spot up shooter...fine, then lead. Start by playing defense.

As for the media, just another excuse. Perform and you are a god. Sniffle and sneeze and you will be crucified. You want to be Derek Jeter? Act like it.

You know I gonna spin wit it

It absolutely needs to be addressed. I doubt it will though. Media makes up all these fairytale stories about pitches and fit, and playing for love/championships. One in a blue moon they will be like ohhh btw guy made 10 mil more going there. Smoke and mirrors and most fans buy in. I am not optomistic on change here. Jordan leaving should be a messgae to the league though, doubt anythj g will happen.

then carmelo anthiny should not have forced his way here in the first place. the hypocrisy you and crushalot are exhibiting is laughable.

I've made that argument several times to the disdain of this board. I suggest the players association allow a provision to create tax neutrality. Allow taxable states to offset the indifference by allowing additional non cap tax dollars be paid to those players.

You know I gonna spin wit it

Saying things like 'Zinger can be my spot up shooter' makes him sound like a dope. Still, I am fine with him acting like that if he backs it up. You want Zinger to be your spot up shooter...fine, then lead. Start by playing defense.

As for the media, just another excuse. Perform and you are a god. Sniffle and sneeze and you will be crucified. You want to be Derek Jeter? Act like it.

No it doesn't, that is most likely going to be his role until he gains strength and more weight. I'm looking foward to the rare Melo pass to actually result in assists in 2015.

12-13% annually is really significant when you are talking millions of dollars. Something needs to be done to level the playing field. That is a huge handicap when you negotiate with any free agent but more significant for max guys. That is what the knicks walk into every negotiation facing.
