true if they can stay healthy, which is almost impossible

D Lee would be a good fit here. Hopefully he makes his wishes known to GS and wants to come back to NY.

If the Knicks could get RoLo, Lee, Looney, future pick(s), I'd do it. Some light salary may need to go to GS, maybe Calderon.

Can those "wonderful" trade exceptions we have be put to any use at the point where we are near or above the cap limit?

You have Lee for the "now," Lopez as a "bridge" between now and the future, and Looney and the pick(s) for the future.

I do recall reading that Looney may need some kind of medical procedure in the future, though- not sure if it was back or hip related- and that this might have caused him to drop in the draft.

The trade exceptions have cap holds aka they are the same as cap room. We have to relinquish the trade exceptions to get cap room.

Dollar for dollar?

If you are near to the cap limit and cannot normally take a $5M player as you would go above the cap, would the trade exception work as an asset at that point?

And while David may have enjoyed playing in NYC and being a Knick, its LA, and though they are running out of water, they are a better run franchise, and they have more talent than we do.

Nope--I dont need Lee unless I get a 2016#1 and Looney--anything less pass.

I would take just Looney. Looney is a mid first round talent. Lee actually fills a huge need here. It's a very good trade for $15M in cap room.

. Philly just did a deal where they got a number 1 Staukus TWO pick swaps and a 2 for two players who can still play. AND can also be traded again. D Lee at 15.4 is a lot to absorb. I think Looney and a lottery protected 1 is fair.

If the Knicks want to create cap room, they have to "waive" the trade exceptions. That's all I know.

So if we want to create this $28M in cap room we're saying we have right now, that means we've waived the trade exceptions and relinquished rights to guys like Amar'e and Bargnani and Lance Thomas. etc.

We add talent. We save them 1 year on a contract. GS's owner is not crying poverty if they have to pay tax, not after winning the championship.

If I can get Lee, I'm happy, because right now, I'm looking at NBDL talent to fill out my roster, and a repeat of last years disaster.

Maybe. I'd still do the deal without that, but if they give us a 2017 pick or something, I wouldn't say no.

I'd still do the trade for just Looney and Lee.

Logic: $15M for Looney and Lee is better value than we could get anywhere in FA at this point.

Sadly - the Lakers and Knicks are so desperate for warm bodies over 6'7" that they will probably get into a bidding war for Lee.

If we moveed Calderón, and some how signed Lopez and traded for Lee and Looney and maybe a pick I would say we had a good offseason:

Grant
Porzingis
Lopez
Lee
Looney
Afflalo

That's nice enough

Phil hasn't panicked so far, so why would he do that now? I don't see him getting desperate and wasting assets for no reason.

Kings were desperate to get that cap space so they overpaid to dump contracts...

Think we can definitely get a future first by adding Lee but wouldn't expect the same type of haul as that Philly/SAC deal unfortunately.

"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)

Yeah, the other thing is the Warriors don't have to be desperate. They have until the trade deadline to get under the luxury tax line.

They aren't trying to create cap room to sign FA - they're just trying to keep their payroll costs down.

How much cap room would we have if we sign Lopez to around 11 mil per and then stretch Calderon? If we can get Lee and Looney, I'd do it.

Yeah but who will have a clean 15.4mm to take on Lee?

Good point - there is some urgency now because of the dwindling cap room around the league.

But the Lakers and Knicks certainly have the cap room right now and both are in desperate need of a serviceable big man.

It's all about who is more desperate. GSW could also waive and stretch DLee and lower their lux cap hit.

The Lakers have Randle they just drafted Nance why would they need another PF? They need a C.
