The thought of Lopez lumbering around the floor of Madison Square Garden is nauseating to me. I want nothing to do with the Lolez gene pool. All these years and we still don't have someone who can get easy shots around the basket.

Ugh I'm disgusted

Instead of Monroe-Jordan-Melo, Max out Jordan/Or grab a guy like Lopez, and instead of putting Melo at SF put him at PF. Turn around and sign a guy like Matthews. Now you have Matthews-Melo-Jordan/Lopez. To me much better balance.

I don't think we have room to sign Wes Matthews with Afflalo on board.

I believe we have about $21M in cap room right now.

I'd go either:

a) $20M to DeAndre Jordan

or

b) $12M to Robin Lopez (give him the Tyson Chandler deal 4yr $53M)
$7M to Derrick Williams
$2M to Shved

This....I'm loving the idea of not overpaying guys and killing our cap....I like Monroe, but I would rather get a center that will help us more on the defensive end....

I doubt it. Phil thought he was doing right by the fans who criticized him for the Melo deal. Only now was not the time to lowball free agents. Especially with the amount of money being thrown around to bums

Yeah, reports Phil did not offer Monroe the max. I think if he had, Monroe would have signed immediately. Offering him less than the max to come to a losing team... oh well. Not a huge mistake, to me it is really questionable if Monroe is a max guy.

The same principle holds: you cannot sink all of your money into just 1 player. For me, I don't care what other teams are throwing at players, Monroe is and probably will always be a limited player.

We still have plenty of options to make this team a playoff contender next year with a few tier two bigs out there with Rolo topping the list and plenty of other players as well. I would give a 14/15 million dollar offer to T.Harris and sign Rolo but we'd have to use the stretch provision on Calderon.
Can we really be mad at Phil if he just didn't think Monroe was worth the max so he took his chances on offering him less?? I was one that wouldn't of minded signing Monroe but i'm not mad at this all that much especially if Phil uses that money in a way that is better for us.

So we blew drafting Towns and now we blew the meeting with Monroe. Unbelievable. This is like getting your heart ripped out from your chest

Can't fault Phil for having values for players on his list. If he didn't feel Monroe was worth the max then so be it. You can't blame him for sticking to his guns.

This is no where near as bad as the draft lottery. The knicks still have options out there and Monroe was going to be a struggle to fit anyway.

I'm not gonna shed any tears over Monroe. I've watched entire Pistons games he played in and never once thought he was a good player.

Bargnani lit him up for 25pts. BARGNANI LIT HIM UP FOR 25 PTs. Lou Amundson had 17pts 14rebs that same game. Monroe is a terrible defender. I was somewhat resigned to him, but it feels freeing not to have him on the roster.

He's a terrible defender. Putting him next to Melo would make it impossible to build a good defensive squad.

Good riddance.

Agreed - the draft lottery felt like having my heart ripped out. This just feels like having a chance to build a good defensive squad.

I look at Monroe and question whether he enjoys the game. He's a good player, but I never once was excited about him.

Moving on.

I would make a big push for Robin Lopez and Derrick Williams NOW.

His defense will be a heck of a lot better now guarding these awful NBA centers instead of the best players in the game at PF. Lopez had it easy
