I'm skeptical about Cauley-Stein. Some of his predraft interview answers were a bit spacey. I see his upside is DeAndre Jordan/Tyson Chandler. And downside is Javale McGee. realistic output: Robin Lopez.

Scary and expensive downside. Note that it took Chandler a long time to be more than an 8ppg/8rpg type of player. wcs is just learning the game.

For what it's worth, Ewing spent years on sub .500 teams before becoming a perennial contender.

McGee might be the realistic output for Stein. I think Gadzuric/Jared Jeffries is the downside.

I mean, the Willie Cauley Stein ship has sailed anyway. I'm just saying I don't know how you cover for a Melo and Monroe frontline defensively. WCS was my answer at one point - but that ship done sailed. 6th overall in the draft, not 13th as Briggs predicted, but what can you do.

Just my humble opinion--I don't think we need to break the bank to add defense in FA, nor did we need to reach for a defense-only big man in the draft. If we bring in Monroe, I'd like to add a few inexpensive defenders to get the mix right -- bigs like Jordan Bachynski who's huge and a good shot-blocker; same for Ovidijus Galdikas--we'll find out soon enough in SL if he can protect the goal; Alexis Ajinca's another big over 7' that's pretty well rounded, shouldn't be too expensive & can help protect the rim; Porzingis will offer some shot-blocking when he gets PT; Khem Birch, a PF similar to Taj Gibson--a little on the thin side but an able shot-blocker as well + he runs the floor, would supply another good lob target at the rim, he can score in close and he hits the glass; maybe we add a couple of defensive-minded wings like Thanasis, maybe an Eric Griffin or this Maurice N'dour who looks to have some real nice two-way skills at 6'9". We also incorporate in a couple of PGs who play defense--Galloway and Jerian Grant--all these guys could up the defense as a whole and help protect guys like Melo and Monroe.
