You are right... the conventional GM does more than just accrue and manipulate assets and maximize profits by minimizing spending.

There's a reason why Porzingis would not work out for him, OK4 does not want to be there, free agents don't want to be there, and the league is looking into his salary practices.

For the sake of Sixers' fans and their "crappy city," I hope their fortunes change, as long as we are always once step better.

when was the last time that a big FA wanted to go to the sixers?

so here is what phil is thinking ....

So he's just like all previous Philly GMs then, I guess.

The thing that's actually different, though, is all the chatter you hear about draft picks not wanting to go their or even work out for them.

I understand that, ultimately, they have no choice on the matter, but I'm not sure that I've ever heard this much coming from potential picks and their agents, based on what reporters have said.

Not a good thing for the franchise or the city.

Is it worse now than in other years?

Also, its understandable that players may not want to play on a tank-always team. They will have to at some point start being competitive with all their assets to make the team more attracting.

This is really against what Hinkie has done all along though. There is inconsistency in his approach. He has always picked players who have the highest upside, regardless of how long he would need to wait. He doesn't care if a player takes 2-3 years to come to the US, or is injured for the whole season, just take the highest upside. It has been a consensus the last couple of months that while Okafor was the most NBA ready player and likely to be Rookie of the Year, Porzigis and Mudiay offer more upside 5 years down the road. In addition, they are better fits for Philly. So why did Hinkie suddenly decide that drafting the more NBA ready player was the priority over drafting a player who had the higher upside? And a better fit as well. And he said he is keeping Okafor, so it's not for trading purposes. This guy is not making any sense and he thinks he is way smarter than he actually is.

Embiid was a major setback for Hinkie...had to be a consideration whwn he picked OK4, a similar player.

Givony said Hinkie was not going to take KP because he was not able to give him a physical. I expect this hesitation was also Embiid inspired.

Maybe blessing in disguise with OK4's inability to defend, hit FT shots, and questionable work ethic/game shape, only to be in the hardest city to play in

While KP is thinking about how to practice more with his work ethic and getting a House near Weschester and how can improve his game, turn the BOOS into POSITIVES...

With his work ethic, KP will get there, whether he will be closer to Gasol/Dirk/Anthony Davis/ a young bigger AK47 on DEFENSE, remains to be told, whether he can play SF/PF/Center

Eventually he will be able to defend 3-4 positions though
I hope we get the RIGHT trainers and would want them to get AD's trainor, while NOT doing HEAVY WEIGHT in the gym, but to much more REPS and SETS with plenty of sleep and a nutrionist to gain weight/replenish energy, hopefully sometimes next season, he will improve drastically already

As he already could at least shoot, run the floor, provide help defense, and do things that NO other can on our roster with his physical skills, mobility/length, and shooting touch

Very true. If KP showed no interest in going there i can see why they took Okafor.

See how Phans reacted? And NY fans are just as bad.

Click the link, He put the jersey on the table!!

So if you think that somehow tarnished Hinkie?

While I don't pretend to know how players don't want to be in Philly, we do know:

1. Free agents are not being signed because they are nto trying to sign any.
2. Hinkie swung for the fence on Embiid who fell to him.
3. Harris the owner, is a hedge fund dick who Im gonna guess is very much involved with how the team is operating.
4. They thought all along they'd have Russell or Mundiay. When Oka4 fell I think they would be nuts to NOT take him!!!!
5. They suck, we suck and Im not talking smack until we are well ahead of them.

We got the 2nd best outcome after scoring up a year long tank.after losing out on Towns Porzingiswas the next Best for for this system. There is no doubt about it in my mind. Offensively as he can play like a guard at 7'2. Inside and out and can dribble drive. He will be completely unstoppable in a few years. He has great lateral quickness and is athletic/long enough to be a great defender once he gets stronger.

I like Ok4 but we need guys who can do it all on this team. OK4 is too specialized. He is a post scorer. Philly made a mistake if they think he will carry them. He is going to need a lot of pieces around him which Philly does not have. He would've been better off on the lakers or a team that is a closer to contending and simply need post scoring.

Drafting Russell & Mudiay was never an option as we don't need 20pts out of the PG position when you have Melo dominating the ball. You need a do it all guard who is big, defends and is just a basketball player. Grant is perfect for this role.

I think that's the part that excites me the most about PK. You know they vetted him bigtime. They couldn't afford to phuck this up. They had plenty of safe options... I have think this kid is pretty good. 7'1 (7'3 by NBA w/ shoes standards) and an offensive skill set that's a nice mix of skill and aggressive athletic plays. What comes out of this kid's mouth? "Im going to focus on defense as that is what will get me the most minutes"

Drago baby!

That's funny. He does look a lot like Drago except his English is super . To think he never lived here. Anyone overseas can learn English but he already learned all the little nuances that makes it seem like he's lived here a decade+

This^

Zings might take a little longer to reach his full potential than Towns and Ok4 but IMO he will certainly be a better pro than Ok4 and maybe even more impactful than Towns offensively. Towns and Zings do it all except Towns can't dribble drive like Zings. Zings is more like a taller Dirk & Durant. Towns will be the better banger and rebounder defensively though. Towns was the clear cut #1 pick and that was our pick until we blew it

Good find.

I was kind of right in a earlier post I did in this thread,

They cut it short, though...were the other guys going to drop theirs too? Just wondering.

but I never gave a thought to the possibility that someone would actually take the time to crop the video.

OK4 might not want to be there, but everything I've read tells me that he is a pretty good kid, and my first impulse that think that this was out of character with what we know of him.

Glad that this is not a story.

Still feel that if Embiid was healthy he would have been looking to do something else with his pick at 3, but who knows.

Attention whore credit accumulation is very important for some.

Thankfully we don't have any way to officially quantify the "like" or "dislike" quotient of a poster on this forum.

I could just see folks fighting over their relative "value" to this forum based on accumulated likes and dislikes, but then again, this seems logical in a sport where analytics and the reliance on new statistical models are used for winning arguments.
