The plan is to draft for later and let those kids develop and spend money on the known quantities you can get in FA now to help the team win now. Instead of building for 3 to 5 years, this type of plan is for now and the next 7 years after.
+1
But why would a 17 win team invest half its resources (free agency but not draft) in winning now? There are teams coming off double or triple the wins and investing all their resources in winning now. We can't compete with them. But then there are also lottery teams investing all their resources in rebuilding. We put ourselves at a disadvantage if we only partly invest in rebuilding while they fully invest in it. We'd be better off rebuilding fully. I'm hoping that's what Phil will do.
Thats why I'm like whats the plan. There is nothing wrong with going young and building for the future but don't then sign old guys to make a run with Melo. In fact you could make a real good argument for trading Melo as soon as its shown he's healthy again.
+1 though waiting to trade him is a gamble since we don't know how good he'll be. I'd explore trades right now.
That actually makes some sense. Wait for 2016/2017 and if it looks like the kid is the future move Melo like the GSW moved Monta. Cause right now Melo should be the PF and Zing is a PF so that is going to be a development issue in a season or two once Melo really starts to slow down
Every player on the roster play 2 positions.....this is not Philly with three post players.
Melo on the perimeter is not going to work for the remainder of his contract. Zinger looks like a true PF, unless he puts on 30 pounds of Muscle and even then it'll probably make more sense offensively to play him in the high post like Melo will be operating. Maybe by the end both guys move up a spots but eventually your likely looking at a Monta in GSW situation.
