I just know he is the ideal cheering guy on the bench while Melo got a super dunk.

Allen is a really solid player and would be a good value pick up in my opinion.

Yeah, I like him too. Reminds me of Marreese Speights who was very good for the Warriors this year. That type of player.. Can play both the 4/5 and his mid-range game is money.. I think he could be a little more than Mo Speights--I think Allen might be a better rebounder--he's got some Kurt Thomas/David West to him as well. Playing with West last year/against him in practice only could've have helped him (Luis Scola too). He was one of those bench players from last year who performed very well when called upon...This guy's definitely ready for a larger role in the NBA imo.

The frontcourt I'd like to see Phil put together:

5 - Alexis Ajinca (similar to Lavoy Allen in that he performed very well when called upon. Ready for a larger role)
4 - Greg Monroe (or Jahlil Okafor)
3 - Melo
-----------------------
Backup 5 - Jordan Bachynski
Backup 4/5 - Lavoy Allen
Backup 3 - Eric Griffin
Backup 3/2 - Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Extra depth - Jerrelle Benimon, Khem Birch, maybe Richard Howell

My main question -- we have about $27-28mm to spend, right? Is that enough for Monroe/Ajinca/Allen and then whatever backcourt upgrade (resign Shved)? It'll be close:

Monroe: $15mm+
Ajinca: $5mm? (hopefully less)
Allen: $5mm? (hopefully less)
Shved: QO for $4mm--might take a starting salary of $5mm. Can we exceed the cap to sign Shved? Thought I read that. Anyone know?

If we somehow got Okafor, there wouldn't necessarily be a need for Greg Monroe. That would give us $15mm to play with. If we got Okafor--instead of Monroe, I'd switch gears and make a big-time run at Cory Joseph. Otherwise, hoping for Russell and then Monroe works. Even if it's Porzingis, I still sign Monroe (KP will need time to fill out and develop). If we traded down for Myles Turner or Frank Kaminsky, I think I still sign Monroe.

We might be able to conserve a little bit of money with Ajinca and Shved if we promised them starting roles. Any way Monroe takes $1-2mm less to make it all work or am I dreaming? Also, when do we seriously consider stretching Calderon to ensure we get all the guys we want?
