OK....My turn...
Looking at our curent roster. Here are our players that are under contract.
Small Forward
Carmelo Anthony
Cleanthony Early
Shooing Guard
THJr
Point Guard
Jose Calderon
Langston Galloway
My first move would be to find a way to move Calderon and THJr.
There are actually a couple of teams that would be a good place for Calderon. Houston and Chicago. Houston because Harden needs another playmaker that can also spot up when he plays ISO and can occasionally give him a blow in handling the ball. Chicago will lose Hinrich I think next year and they need a backup vet PG. I think the best option for us is Houston. 2 Players that have been lost in their rotation is Donatas Montiejunas and Kostas Papanikolau. Both players are triangle friendly.
Knicks Trade Calderon to Houston and receive DMo and Papanikolau.
I want a 1st round draft pick for THJr. Teams that I would target are Dallas (they need young vets and not youngins to run with Dirk), Boston (they have 4 picks this year and would probably rather have young vet + 2picks) and Washington (they have a hole with their backup SG and backup SF). Since this is my wet dream I am going with Boston.
Knicks trade THJr to Boston for their 28th and 33rd pick in this years draft.
Now the draft. Every indication is pointing to the draft going down like this. Towns, OK4 then Russell. Leaving us with a plethora a very good players. I would love to draft Mudiay but my spidey sense tells me that Big Chief Triangle will not draft a PG this high in the draft. This leaves us with Porzingis, Winslow, Lyles and Stein. Uncle Phil has experience with Euros so I don't think he will be gun shy. He had Kukoc and Gasol. I think he will get his stretch 4/5 here.
Knicks draft Kristaps Porzingis with pick #4.
I am not a draft expert and I basically just follow whatever BRIGGS post here in UK so for the 28th and 33rd pick I will draft the following...
Knicks draft PG Danilo Fuzaro with the 28th pick.
Knicks draft PF Jordan Mickey with the 33rd pick.
Using salaries from last years draft picks, I am guesstimating that it would cost us $6.5M against the cap per year.
As BRIGGS said..these guys are 2 way players that fills needs.
Now for the Free Agency. I am only targeting UFAs and must be triangle friendly.
We need a center first. Drafting Prozingis means that we need a defensive/rebounding 5 or 4. I would go after Alexis Ajinca. He is making a little under $1M per year right now. I would offer him around $3M per year.
Knicks sign C Alexis Ajinca for 3 years $10M.
I will then need a SG that can shoot. I am going after Wesley Matthews or Danny Green. I actually think Green is gettable. They still need to sign Leonard, Manu, Duncan, Belinelli and Bonner. Green is the player that is in the price range where it is wiser for the Spurs to let him go.
Knicks sign SG Danny Green for 3 years $21M.
Those are my 2 must haves. Now I need to fill up the roster. I have 5 more spots to get to 15. I need a couple more guards and couple more centers.
Knicks sign PG/SG Jeremy Lin 3 years $10M
Knicks sign PG/SG Alexey Shved 2 years $7M
Knicks sign SG Ricky Ledo 2 years $2M
Knicks sign C/PF Greg Smith 1 year $1M
Knicks sign C Andrea Bargnani 1 year $5M
That is around $23M per year for the FAs against the cap per year. So for this year we only used $30M against the cap which still sets us up to be major players again in the 2016 FA market where Kevin Durant and Chandler Parsons are available.
My 2015 Roster would be....
Center
Alexis Ajinca
Andrea Bargnani
Greg Smith
Power Forward
Kristaps Porzingis
Donatas Montiejunas
Jordan Mickey
Small Forward
Carmelo Anthony
Kostas Papanikolau
Cleanthony Early
Shooting Guard
Danny Green
Alexey Shved
Ricky Ledo
Point Guard
Jeremy Lin
Danilo Fuzaro
Langston Galloway
Yup. I am ready to roll with that roster. I have long athletic guards with the exception of Galloway who is 6'2". Enough talent behind Melo at the SF spot. Interchangeable 4s and 5s. 50+ win team? Abso****inglutely!
