Well, the last few times we kept our lottery picks (Frye, Sweetney, Gallo, Hill), it was mostly disappointing too.

Because most of those guys, with the exception of Sweetney needed time to find their roles in the League. Frye, this season aside, and Hill would be major upgrades on this roster. Hallo too, once he rounds onto bball shape.

i dont consider those guys true lottery players. We picked them between 6-10. This year we pick 1-3 and the top of the draft is really good

But is the top really good? Or is the 1-10 really good?

How many years have we grouped draft picks in the same selection...

(Towns / OK4 is 1a/1b - or vice versa)
(Russell / Mudiay is 3a/3b - or vice versa)
(Kaminsky / Stein)
(Winslow / Johnson)

To me this draft has more overlap of draft picks than any other times going into a draft. Usually the order of the top picks are well established by now. This is the reason why I think Phil doesn't mind entertaining a trade option. Some will have OK4 ranked high and Russell ranked low. But Phil could see them as both potential #1 picks. If thats the case, why not try and get Russell with another pick like Stein or Decker. It's like having the ability to get your target pick, with another 1st round selection, or potential NBA starter? Remember, we have more than 1 spot to fill, in our starting lineup. Plus, it's not how we rank these guys, it's how Phil ranks them....Similar to Reese from the Giants, Phil is running the show and he has his own ranking, which may be different from our ranking.

Towns, OK4 and Russell might have the same #1 value to Phil....Since we have so many holes to fill, this is the draft to take advantage of somebody below us willing to over pay for a chance to select #1-#4 slot. History tells us that all 4 players in the top of any draft will not turn out to be NBA starters. Maybe 3 out of 4. So I say, why not try and get your targeted pick, plus an additional pick / cap friendly player? Just because we finally got a high pick since Patrick Ewing, that doesn't mean we go into the candy store like crack heads, drooling over OK4 or Towns. Gotta be smart and explore all opportunities and select the best way to improve this team.

Good Points. I actually do think Phil has been thinking about this. The fact that they're even talking about some kind of deal for the pick is telling. They're gonna listen to every offer and they let it be known they'll listen. It can't hurt to keep your options open. I like this draft. I think there's a lot of quality depth. If we didn't have a top pick I still think we'd end up with a good player out of this draft.

This is why I think this was a perfect year to bottom out and be in the lottery. Not every year is a strong draft class, but this year is a good one. I think with this team being so empty of talent they have to consider the idea of getting as much talent as possible. It's a tough psychological hurdle to get a fan base over tho, to make them accept the idea of trading a top pick for 2 lower picks. Even if it really would make the team better. I wouldn't want to be the guy to make that decision and have to sell it to the fan base.

Which is gonna be a huge need for us next year if Phil uses our draft pick on a big (Towns/OK4) and spends most our free agency money on bigs. We needs shooters because we don't have any as of now and please don't say Timmy.

I like Winslow, but he plays like a small PF and will have to play SF. These guys are projections and they don't always work out.

anyone advocating trading out of the top of this draft is off their rocker. Do you really trust the Knicks to trade their pick and do it in a responsible fashion???

Who wants to trade our lotto pick

im just being hypothetical. We cant trade it anyway

We can't trade the actual pick but we can make the pick for another team and complete the trade after that.

this fanbase is so accustomed to having its picks dealt that people are just assuming it will happen again

1-4

We keep winning games and it will eventually be 1-6. We still have Detroit, Orlando and a Atlanta team that might sit all of their starters against us.

I heard this on the radio the other day - the last rookie The Knicks drafted & then signed to an extension was Charlie Ward.

That's just crazy.

Jimmy Butler/James Harden

HUGE upside, could be the best player in the draft

Ajincia could be nearly as good as Towns is and likely even better than him in Towns first 2 years

The endless trading of picks and young players was a hangover from the Riley era- if you look at him with the heat, he's been doing the same thing there (2 picks for Dragic, picks for LeBron and bosh) - it makes sense if your a playoff team, but it's seems we forgot that important criteria!

Based off this tournament alone...I have Winslow at 5

1. OK4
2. Towns
3. Kaminsky
4. Russell
5. Winslow

This all depends on team needs, of course...

A lot of folks on this board are raving about an unknown like Mudiay while over looking Winslow mainly because of Okafor. That kid might turn out to be THE best player of the draft in a couple of years. He is a legit 6'6" or closer to 6'7" and might still grow giving his age. He is a prolific two-way player who take pride on playing at both ends of the court. He can handle/slash/jump over people. He might turn out to be as good as Wade/Harden/etc
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Winslow is the safest pick we can make after Towns.

In terms of SAFETY it would have to go Towns Winslow Okafor Mudiay. We cant risk a Euro even if we think he might be the best player and Russell isnt in the athletic group the first 4 are--even if he might be better.
