I don't know who Phil should hire to replace them, but I believe its more than clear that we can do better. They have all been in this orgnization long enough to show that there are better options out there, has to be.
Warkentein, Gabriel, and now Gaines are experienced guys with various degrees of success. Mills is a bean counter so I would not worry about him. His savvy is in contracts and finance. When the Boss dictates the culture and the revolving door of GM's and Coach's it should be understandable to even the most emotional ignorant fan that there is plenty wrong with the organization.
To get to this point after a year of cleaning house its not the fault of any one exec but the accumulative actions of 15 years. You don't clean house after a 15 win season when the decision was to blow it the hell up was made a long time ago.
Granted, after a year on the job Phil with now first hand exposure to his exec he inherited decides based on philosophical compatibility I can understand.
For fans to want someone to blame for this and clean house is really just reactionary. This franchise at the end of last season had a core of Melo, A steep in decline FlueTyson, Shump and JR. Add oft injured Bargs and the pillars of the franchise is on a shaky foundation.
Phil should make changes but not because of assignment of blame, but to further employ his cultural revolution. Non believers should be replaced. Coach Witted was found wanting.
Phils inclusion as a knick exec should not be judged after 12 months, but really the ultimate grade will be when he is gone and the franchise having been modeled after his vision. Did we contend? Is the system producing coaches? Players? is the system still in place? Has it evolved? Macro evaluation, not "didn't get spit for Tyson" Micro grades.
Way too soon to label phil anything but "premature".
Its about performance. I see nothing to indicate that these men have done anything of consequence since first joining this organization. If Phil wants to change the culture, keeping the same people in place, Dolan's people, is going to make that very difficult. Its not about blame, its about finding the most talented people out there to help Phil reach his goal of winning a championship. These execs had plenty of time to prove what they can do for this franchise, time for some new blood.
