You're talking about a G who is 6-8 who can handle has elite + athleticism and a jumpshot that looks very similar to Klay Thompson. Hey good problem to have. Im also not counting out Russell(who left to a bad game but his overall was INCREDIBLE)
I think all 3 of these guys Hezonja Russell and Winslow are all just a hair ahead of Mudiay. Deangelo Russell has a great chance to be a James Harden part 2 and I don't want to forget that because he left a bad taste in my mouth. Hes a great great player for a fershmen and all of the accolades some of the other guys got "as freshmen" Russell when we look at it still might be the most impressive. In fact if a team took Russel #1 like the Sixers it would NOT surprise me. This is very hard--its very close.
If we can find a scenario where we get two high end picks or assets for one--I think I might do that sans Towns.
There is no way you pass on a talent like Mudiay. The speed the handle the vision and the ability to make decisions to make others better. Let's take a closer look at the prospects and the system that is run. Winslow is an athlete but does he make others better. Will he be able to average 6+ assists? Is his handle lock tight that he can run the point.
Hezonja looks like a very good player, let's be honest though how many Euros have panned out and really played the SG position at a real high level in the history of the NBA? Maybe 4 or 5 at best. Two of the best have been Ginobili and Drazen and to some degree Sarunas Marcilonas. Now I'm not hating on Hezonja but would you take him that high up? I wouldn't. Deangelo Russell is intriguing but if you really follow College basketball and I know you do you will see that he has good vision, as does Mudiay, but he lacks the speed and explosiveness that Mudiay brings to the table. Russell is no doubt the better shooter but if you watched all year he isn't the finisher Mudiay is. Mudiay can get into the lane at will against anyone, you can't say that about Russell.
System who will fit the system better? One thing about the triangle is that it always thrived with a SG that had Point guard handle, and vision an athletic freak who had the ability to get in the lane and finish strong.
Don't pass Mudiay, don't hold going to China against him. The kid is truely a superior talent. Probably the best talent in the draft.
