Simply stunning how his stock has fallen since leaving the Pacers.
He was making a lot of progress with them the last two years- still in need of improvement, but the guy was a nice all-around player on a very good team.
Almost every aspect of his shooting game has gone down. He was up to 35% from 3 last year and shooting 71% from the line... those numbers are now 16% and 62%, respectively.
There is a cautionary tale to be learned, here. Folks look at this or that player and the stats they have on a certain team, and think it will translate favorably when they play for another team. There are a lot of factors, on the court, in the locker room, and off the court that affect the desire, confidence, and performance of a particular player. We all have the example of JR Smith to support this theory.
No guarantee that the good money you pay someone will result in a good performance on the court.
I would be very wary paying top dollars to a player who has had recent success without a long track record of such success. For me, that would apply to guys like Kanter and Draymond Green, among others.
I would give Stevenson a chance to prove himself if Phil and Fisher think he can play in the system we are choosing to use, especially if we can move Calderon, but I'm not sure how coming back home will affect the guy, and you have to be prepared for problems, especially since the Knicks don't have a veteran team with strong player leaders.
