Melo is owed a hundred mil and just had a serious knee surgery. Would you give up a top lottery pick to get him? Would you even sign him as an FA to a hundred mil for yrs 13 to 16 right now if he was an FA (forget having to also give up a high lottery pick)? The same reason we'd love to do this trade is why the other team wouldn't do it.

Id assume that Melo would be looked at by doctors every which way. But you're right I wouldnt do it either--but the Sacramento owner might.

Actually I would do a 100 : 1

I don't see Melo going anywhere this summer. Next trade deadline soonest, and the following summer when every team has new cap room and can acquire him for a 2nd rounder as the practical soonest time we can hope to have relief.

In the meantime, Phil and Fisher are going to try to make it work. I can hope they succeed.

I'd like to think adding a couple of key parts can get us respectable again.

But I also would have thought a 14 win season for this squad was an absurd prediction at the beginning of the year.

Yeah, but the doctors can't know how the knee will hold up over the next 4 years - a lot of it is just guessing.
If the Knicks are certain he'll recover, then now is definitely not the time to trade him.
If they think it's unlikely he'll be the same, then we just need to do whatever we can to get out of his contract.
If they have no idea how he'll recover, I'd still want to just get out of his contract and have the 25 mil freed up each year.

The crazy thing is the Amundson, Thomas, Schved, Galloway etc. squad has won almost double the number of games the JR, Shump, Melo, Stat team did this year.

What about Melo to the Lakers for their draft pick?

I think thats feasible... I really do

Next year is his 13th in the league & now he has a bum knee.
Any team that trades for him is as stupid as the Knicks have been for a decade & a half.

Seriously - look at how the Lakers have been run by the young Buss since Dr. Buss died. He's just as bad or worse than Dolan. Lost Dwight for nothing after giving up a lot to get him, gave away two draft picks for Steve Nash who almost never played... terrible management in LAL right now.

Buss gave up Andrew "I'm A Ticking Time-Bomb" Bynum and a 2017 first round pick that is probably protected for Dwight "I Use to Be Considered a Top 5 Talent" Howard. In what world was that anything but a steal for the Lakers? The Nash deal exploded in their face but their personnel moves have been strong otherwise. The Lakers problems have had everything to do with them hiring the worst coach, ever (Mike Brown) and another guy who didn't fit (Mike D'Antoni). Nothing more or less.

I can understand the Trade Melo talk given the time horizon he has and the fact that we are all ready to rebuild. But that no-trade clause is a damper. This article give some insight... he just spent $11MM on a condo combination. Melo is now a permanent resident of NYC. He is not going anywhere.

If it lines up like
Pg-Collison
Sg-Stuakas
SF-Gay
Pf-Melo
C-Cousins
then they might have one of the worst defenses in the NBA

He might, for less than your original trade quote and probably would want to push some bad contracts back onto the Knicks.

In any scenario, even if the Knicks can strongarm Melo into waiving his No Trade Clause, it will be a sell low situation. IMHO there is no trade situation that doesn't represent a sell low for Melo.

Given the bargaining leverage of a NTC ( Melo isn't going to a team gutted to get him there, even he can see that will lead him nowhere), Melo would have to move for pennies on the dollar in terms of value.

Veterans have historically not given a **** about draft picks and I doubt that Melo departs from that thinking. If we're moving Melo, those picks are EXACTLY what we'd want so I don't necessarily see us having to sell low. Fortunately for us, the Lakers have a lottery pick this year and I suspect that they'd be inclined to move it and the 25th for Melo and an asset.

Melo to Sacramento though, has no chance of happening. He craves the bright lights and is too brand conscious to play for a team in the middle of No Where, California.
