Do the right thing for 25-30mpg a night. There will be nights you can lean on him, and other nights you will try to rest him, but he's going to sink mid range jumpers like he's along in the gym, he's going to play excellent team defense, he's a great locker room guy. He's a great rebounder. He knows how to post smaller guys and is a legit stretch big. He doesnt shoot the 3 but like Kurt is money from the 15-18 foot range.

Obviously we could guage his intentions with his agent, but he's a guy I would overpay for because of the intangibles he brings in a short term deal, and keep him around as long as he wants to stay.

After his contract is up his age makes him a MLE player. Maybe one more year at $12mm is enough to lure him in (2 year $25mm).

He would be a good player to have if we draft a big as well. Towns/OK4 would really benefit from having West and Admundson here for their first couple years as well.

If anyone "plays the right way" its West.

Thoughts?

Why not just get Milsap? He is younger and brings good leadership.

I dont think he does actually. He's good doesnt have a good locker room rep

You sure you want to go with a 34 year old player. Haven't we realized that these guys once they put on a NYK jersey basically start their break down. McDyess, Baron Davis, Kidd, Camby, Wallace, big men and NY do they ever stay healthy? StAt, Bargs. I wouldn't go West as he would command to much money and entering the final phase of basketball that is a guaranteed injury waiting to happen. What has West ever lead to say he is a leader.

What has Kurt ever won? What West is a winning player who plays the right way.

This is not the guy Im looking to win a title for me. This is after I whiff on Aldridge and Gasol and Im looking at team needs.

Im also not opposed to Milsap, and think he would be very good here, especially next to OK4. However Milsap is about money and wants to be paid the most he can get for the longest he can get it. Thats about 80% of athletes in pro sports but Milsap is going to cost us $15mm a year for 4 years. West is shorter commitment and you look to bring him in as a stop gap type guy to help you groom.

Just think we need to go younger vet types if there is any out there.

I'd pass unless the Knicks swings and miss. If a pick comes back with West then I would think about it. The dude is old and is in the decline.

Last night I thought Cole's effort, passing and stamina was much better. I am hoping tat he is benefitting from playing and practicing with Lou. Lou is a guy that has to work harder before and after practice, during games etc and he is the starter. Maybe Lou and Langston step into leadership roles next season. I think Lou could fill KMart's role off the bench. Langston wants to be a leader on the team. Parsons was the captain on the Rckets in his 3rd season with Howard and Harden on the team. Maybe Langston can be that guy.

it makes a difference. It rubs off. We have guys who are not just trying to make it here but simply stay in the NBA. Guess what, Lou's been in the NBA for 10 years. Do the math.. at the league minimum he's probably grossed about $5mm playing hoops in the NBA for the last 10 years. Want to stick around? Start doing what THAT guy does.

Phil has brought in some kids with skill also. Shved, Gallow, Ledo.. I think these guys have legit NBA skill sets. Its the heart that separates these guys so often, but much of that can be habits. Don't just work hard, work smart.

Look, we need talent but Lou can have a nice impact here and play that Kurt Thomas role as well. A little more teachers pet than locker room cop but it all for good reasons. He really brings it

This is West last big money payday...I would be surprised if he opts out and surprised even more if Knicks (or any other team) offered what you suggested.

Besides...assuming that the fan base would like Melo to slide over to the 4 spot permanently, where position do you suggest he plays? Do you think that Melo can still run, full time, at the 3?

Dolan would never agree to bring in a vocal leader like West to this team; specifically, with Carmelo as the main man
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

I had Lavoy Allen in mind for this type of player. Anyone know the deal with Allen? I know he had the sore knee back in Feb. and missed a few games. Since making it back, his usage has fallen off significantly. I gotta believe he's healthy, otherwise he'd be out--nobody's gonna fool around with a lingering knee issue. This guy had a nice stretch this year for Indy where his usage and production were way up. I like his game -- he's got a lot of Mo Speights/Kurt Thomas to him. I think he could be a good role player here. He's young and shouldn't cost too much--I think he'd be good bang for the buck; a guy we get on a reasonable contract that could exceed expectations...Is he 100% healthy? Did he just lose his spot in the rotation after he went down? Is Indy trying to keep his production down in the hopes of resigning him cheap??

I mentioned this some time ago and still think it makes sense.

Why cant West be the stop gap until Zinga is ready for a heavier workload? Jason Kidd scored like 3 buckets in the playoffs for the Knicks and we had guys calling him the MVP.

If West's role is quality veteran play and a veteran lockerroom guy than cool. Its one thing to fill a roster with old guys.

We have
vets: Melo, Calderon
youngs: Galloway, Early, Grant, Porzingis

If the Knicks are going to invest in a guy like West it tells me they value what he brings as a vet... should be an interesting summer
