Phil has options to get quality bigs in Free Agency. I don't see there being any problem if we ended up with Russell. It would actually make things more doable in that Phil knows he can get good production out of any number of low cost Free Agent bigs like Monroe, Lopez or Ajinca. I think there's a plan for Russell as the pick as much as there is if it's OK4 or Towns. There's a clear path to rebuilding the team IMO.

Oh I agree, and quite frankly I agree with that sentiment. I would say either OK/Towns would have to show some pretty huge red flag (health?) for the Knicks to pass on, either that or Russell would have to simply look that good.

That being said, as much as I like him if we did take him over OK4/Towns one would have to think this kid did something that really blew Phil away.

Russell is so smooth in everything he does, its almost hard to gauge how good an athlete he is. I suspect that may dictate where he ranks with the other guys at the top.

the draft is funny... its like a rule you cant pass on OK4/Towns to take a small player, but that small may very well end up being the best player in the draft. Regardless if we fall to 3-4 and get Russell I would view that as drafting a franchise caliber player

Let me preface that I have watched zero CBB & have no idea if any of these players are good or not.

But, I lean towards Russell because of the way the game has evolved and dynamic guards are able to impact the game in ways talented bigs aren't today. Especially come play offs.

Where is Dwight Howard?

I'd be happpy with Cole Aldrich & Lou & Jason Smith if I had a dynamic back court that could attack, break defenses down, set up team mates for easy scores and finish at the basket.

Not very triangle of me, but just my opinion.

actually I think his level of passing makes him perfect. He's that magical mix of scoring + court vision. With bigs moving around Russell would shred defenses.

He's playing today at 4ish in the 7-10 game. Ohio are underdogs so it should be a really fun game to watch.

Its his passing that I really want - we haven't had a real efficient passing guard since Mark Jackson.

Get me Russell & an impact FA big like a Monroe, a healthy Melo and a bunch of our present guys back and I'd like to realistically think we can flirt with 500 ball next year.

Which in the east can get you a 3 or 4 seed in the play offs

When was the last time that the knicks drafted a guy who can actually shoot?

Russell seems like a great kid. Great head on his shoulders like Durant but I think it's really impressive how Towns could've went anywhere yet he bought in to Calipari selling him on winning. Sacrificing to win as a team with the guarantee from Cal that he will get him drafted high.

The work Calipari has done with this Kentucky team is special. In an era where college basketball is an extention of AAU ball. Where all the stars are out for themselves. Learning bad habits that hurt their pro teams. Gone are the days when college players spent 3-4yrs growing together and becoming dominant fundamently sound teams. Cal deserves a ton of credit for making the most out of a screwy NCAA system

and thats just fine with me when you have Monroe (25), Russell (19), Galloway, Shved, a much younger core etc. Hopefully Thanisis or some of Phil's other prospect yield good play as well.

I thought the same thing, but the difference between money he would get as a 5 pick vs. a 1 pick (assuming he stayed and played well next year) is not worth the risk of getting hurt or exposed.

It would be different if he was borderline lottery or a possible 2nd rounder who could improve his standing into the first round with another year of play.

I was disappointed with Beal as a shooter in College but the guy rebounded, played d, and performed great late in the year. However, you saw the release and the mechanics of a greater Shooter. Those shooting mechanics have carried over to the NBA and he is becoming a sniper from 3. He is Avg 40% on 4.4 3PAs so far in his career. The difference between a Curry or potentially Russell is that they can combine their great shooting ability with great scoring ability; getting to the line, midrange, or finishing at the rim, Beal does not display that right now. What you hope is that is that he can make that Klay Thompson jump.

So if you if say pure shooters then I would have to say there are probably more than you think. Klay Thompson was a pure shooter in college think but if you say pure shooters that can score then you have to go back to Curry.

Hubert could really shoot it. He couldnt do much else. I checked his college #s for poops and giggles and indeed.. his scoring at UNC was excellent his sr year but no assists, rebs or steals.

In his years as a Knick, Hubert had many games where he was the high scorer. I haven't looked at his stats, but I recall him being close to a 20 ppg game guy for a period of time. If he was playing now, he'd be a top 3 point specialist.

he was a deadly shooter but that was all he could do.

no defense
no rebounding
no passing

however, his shooting was so good that he was still a big net positive.

Russell is so good, if Philly gets the first pick, there is a good chance they will select him since they traded MCW.
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)
