giving amundson anything more than a one year contract is crazy.... he is 32...

stephensen is sort of interesting.. but it's a risk you can only take if you are capped out and need to unload another contract... i just don't think he's interested in being any good tho...

Doesn't Lance take up a boatload of cap space though?

I do not want to see THJ on this team next year. We can find guards who only defend and hit 3's at a much better clip consistently. THJ doesn't excel at anything.

I agree with Yellow. Those are all Vet min guys otherwise they can be easily replaced

Lance is $9M per year. A bargain if he's playing up to his potential. A cap drag otherwise.

I disagree about the Vet min guys - this is called building a team of guys who give a **** and like each other, know the system, have an identity. A team.

It only becomes a bargain if they take Calderon's contract and give the Knicks a 1st rd pick. They would basically have to give the Knicks the Lin deal. In reality settling for just the 1st is even a decent deal but the real prize would be the taking on an extra $2m and gaining a 1st rd pick. If they do not take Calderon back then I would be insistent on a 2nd rd pick.

Alexy Shved is doing well in NY but this is not a Lin situation where his market is going to go up. A 2yr deal with the second yr optional would be okay. The knicks will retain his bird rights then can sign him to a larger contract in 2016 after he proves he will dedicate himself to the gym and his craft(shooting/decision making).

Lou Amundson is a 32 year old hustle player. You do not give out money from your cap for guys like him. He is a vet minimum guy. Also, next year will be his 10th year. The Vet min. for 10 yr vets will be just under $1.5m. So, why hurt yourself by giving an extra 300k?

Cole Aldrich can barely play 2 minutes with out turning fuchsia. He is another vet minimum player and is definately not worth $3m.

Bargs sucks.

Now you just wasted $7m for the center position when you could potentially spend $7m on Kostos Koufos.

Larkin unfortunately seems to short to play the pg in the triangle. He has problem with post entry passes.

Kanter no.

Will Barton is a now because you do not try to outbid Denver for that kind of player.

Everyone will have their own opinion. Ill start off with the players from our team--

Shevyd--Im not offering Alex 3 years 24mm like Houston did for LIn. Im offering him 4 years 18mm and willing to go up a bit--thats a fair contract and one he will get from another team. I want Alex back--there is no doubt. 4.5-5.0 seems fair and reasonable

Aldrich--Aldrich at 2mm per for 3 years is good business. While he might not be fancy hes a VERY solid player who should be able to continue to improve. Because he might not be highly valued--I can keep him--and that really saves me money--would I rather have Cole at 2 or others for 5-7 that do the same thing---no brainer. Cole is under rted and can be used in a quality way. I like cohesion and I want to keep him No doubt about it not a huge move but the right move.

Lou Admundson--again a no brainer I dont care if hes 42 if he can do what hes done for the Knicks this year 1.8mm per for 2 seems very fair and reasonable--hes earned it. Again cohesion character hustle production for low cost. No brainer not a even a thought.

Larkin is a give and take--Ill take iof I can t find a third PG thats all he is--I keep the cohesion of teammates if I cant find a rookie or other player I give him the two years the same reason--want to keep the same guys together--again give or take depending--not any big news here either way.

Bargs--its pretty simple 1 year take it or leave it 1 year 4mm--if he get get more money elsewhere good bye.

Free agents

Pretty simple plan

We need a low block player who can command double teams who can score 20 points and grab 10-12 rebounds and when not open find the open man. Kanter is that. The Only way to get him is by offering him a maximum deal and putting intense pressure on OKC financially to match. If I draft Jahill I still want Kanter. Ill just pair up each with Cole and Admundson.

Stuckey--Ive followed him a lot this year. I love him for this team. Combo PG/SG willing high quality ball mover rebounder much improved mechanics on his 3 ball explosive efficient scorer--6th man of the year written all over him. We need to outspend Indy for his services and Im willing to go to 7.5mm for 3 max out but 6.75 would be my goal.

Barton--upside young athletic player who has shown he can really play. Priority 1 with him if defense hes long athletic. Hes been a pro for 3-4 years and now just showing signs of being a real good NBA baller--this is all wishful thinking because at 3+mm DEnver will match--but Id try. The Knicks may not even think this route and I could understand why with Thansis and the other kid from Europe. Im going on NBA production--hes already been producing

Simple pla keep cohesion bring in a power post bri8nmg in a high quality combo guard who we can use as sixth man and an athletic defender--get the rest from rookie draft etc..

$9mil is not bad. Right around what Jimmy Butler will get. If Phil feels Lance would fit the system and get back to playing good 2-way ball I'd be all for it.

If we trade the. Calderon & THJ even better!!

Cole A is averaging more points more rebounds and more blocks than Koufus is in the same minutes. One will command 5-6mm one we can keep for 2mm and extend it out for 3 years. Its a no brainer 100/100 I want Cole back for 3 more years as a 4th or 5th big man. Guy is a truck he passes hes got touch hes physical he produces great rebounder block shots you could not ask for more out of a 4th or 5th big for his cost. Also we have to watch "cost" as a 1 year contract could mean losing a player the next year when the capo moves up exponentially.

I think Butler will get something like $15M a year, minimum. Close to a max. Lance's deal is actually super decent. He's clashed with the coach in Charlotte. Obviously you try to talk to Lance first and see if he's on board. But he's a NY guy and has supposedly always wanted to play for the Knicks.

I don't know how if there are better realistic options then trading for a guy when he is down and hoping that he revives his career in your system.

I would persue Butler and Danny Green first but what if they are not available to us?
Are you ok with a Galloway/Svhed/THJ backcourt? I'm ok with Galloway and Svhed if we use all our resources on the front court but trading for Lance might really help

i've always been a fan of cole... he just can't play too many minutes... however giving out multi year deals to guys like him is a bit dangerous... same with amundson, larkin, barton and bargnani... in another year it's very likely that they will all be unplayable or out of the league... aldrich is a safer bet than the others due to age and position tho...

Bottom line in FA is that the Knicks are going to have to target guys who are A) super unhappy in their current situtation or B) want more money (meaning the Knicks will have to overpay). Lance fits into Group A. He's not a FA, but he could possibly be had in a trade. Maybe Charlotte is open to taking Calderon and Timmy - then the move is 100% cap neutral for us. Though I can't see anyone trading for Calderon after this abominable season.

Agree with this 100%
Alex Scheyd 4 years 18mm
Lou Adumndson 2 years 3.6mm
Cole Aldrich 3 years 6 mm
Bargnani 1 year 4mm

Agree
Gone: Quincy Acy ,Lance Thomas

Travis Wear - no reason not to keep. He's a league min guy, knows the system now, plays hard, defends, etc etc.. Of Acy/LThomas/Wear I like Wear the best.
Jason Smith - really puzzling. Is he the poor man's Mike Doleac most of us saw early in the year? Because he's played pretty well in the 2nd half. This one comes down to cost for me... if we whiff on better players I would welcome back Smith under a similar reasonable deal.

The FAs will 100% on who we draft so Ill hold off for now.

I can go either way on Larkin--I think he still holds promise a s a guy who can hit the three play quick as a third PG. If you notice his salary is 900k. I dont love keeping Timmy H but in this line up we need a 3 pt shooter and Tim would be fine for 1 more shot. Id probably play all 5 bigs every game. I would ask too much from Towns in year 1 minutes wise even thought Id like to see him earn the starting spot as a shotblocker/rebounder. I like Wear too--depends on who /what we do in the draft---other rotation s pots might be taken by Thansis or the other foreign player and or rookie draft picks we may acquire so for now I have him as out.

I like Larkin & don't understand why the option wasn't picked up.

But, I don't see how we can go into next season with this back court:

Larkin
Shved
Galloway
Calderon
Hardaway

The simple truth is that group has to be upgraded. Individually, there is some nice talent. But collectively, they have too many holes. Its a numbers game and some must leave/go.

agree... Timmy is the guy I jettison. He's just so dumb and inconsistent. I like crzy's suggestion to get Lance.

Calderon has had a nightmare year. Do we make the same mistake we made with Tyson and sell low (or just stretch him) ???

Year before last he was the starter on a 50 win Dallas team and played very well. If there is a guy to wait and see on its Jose.

Galloway/Shved are keepers. If Larkin is around for 900k next year fine.

I can't call him dumb, because I don't know him. But I can call the team that drafted him dumb. He's been the same inconsistent player since college. So there shouldn't be any surprises with him. The Knicks didn't have the right environment for him to succeed. He has the skills and the pedigree to be great. With the kind of family structure you want from a young player. He's a typical late bloomer who will exceed next year when theres more structure, or he will exceed on another team.

So I would call the knicks dumb for drafting an inconsistent player, without developing him into the consistent NBA player he should be. I have a friend whos a die hard Michigan fan, and we talked about him even before he got drafted.

Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland. The future is bright, I'm a Knicks fan for life!

Bringing back Amundson and Cole would be smart but to overpay players and take up cap space when you do not need to is bad business. Lou and Cole were unwanted for a reason and Amundson was almost out the league. Cole barely plays and is unorthodox. He doesn't look good enough or score enough points to increase his market value. That's why they are vet min players.

You like Stuckey and you see a guy shooting 3s better than he has ever shot them in his career. This reminds me of Trevor Ariza. People were so enamored by his improved shooting they wanted to offer him decent money. Now look at him he has reverted back to his old self.

Amen..We are can't assemble a team with a roster that can't complete with even Miami and they aren't a playoff team...We are 14-53 and thinking of extending guys on this roster to career deals??, crazy...

Butler is a $16.5 Mil Max player on today's Market.

I think one thing that is being forgotten is that Phil could opt to go over the cap for next year's team. Both Bargs and Shved could be signed using their Bird Rights, so there's no reason not to go over the cap next year to retain them while still offering them enough money to choose to stay. It wouldn't really matter if he offers Bargs a one year deal for more than $4 Mil. He'd be signed after we have loaded up on key free agents anyway and the same could be done with Shved. This is a great option for Phil knowing he has that in his pocket. So he can go over the cap without having to worry about it for next season.

Also many of the back of the rotation role players could be offered short deals so that he retains cap flexibility for the future. There's a way to work the cap so that he has the flexibility he needs and we also know that the cap is due to increase by a lot soon anyway. Phil has a lot of good options to rebuild this team this summer.

If we trade the. Calderon & THJ even better!!

not bad? Ifs fukkin suicide ...

Maybe if we got back 2 first rounders along with that.

I swear that people are losing their minds ... take on a 9 million guys who was one of the worst players in the league this year? Are you kidding me (not you specifically, guns)?????????

I don't know how if there are better realistic options then trading for a guy when he is down and hoping that he revives his career in your system.

I would persue Butler and Danny Green first but what if they are not available to us?
Are you ok with a Galloway/Svhed/THJ backcourt? I'm ok with Galloway and Svhed if we use all our resources on the front court but trading for Lance might really help

I am not ok with a Galloway and Shved back court but that does not mean that I want to double down on a 16 and make a really stupid move. WE CAN'T THINK LIKE THAT ANYMORE! That was the old knick solutions.

Anyone we go after has to be statistically sound, play good defense, have a good attitude (not another JR), and come at a fair price. If we can't get these types of players then no more gambling. We wait until next year while we travel the world and attempt to uncover secret diamonds.

At this point if you offered me Shved or Lance for the same price (4 million), I would take Shved in a heartbeat.

For some reason we can't break the "we need to get Josh Smith and change him" attitude.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

A player like Stuckey is they type of player that gets exception type money and not the full mle but BAE and mmle.

Trevor Ariza is a volume 3 point shooting wing player. Rodney Stuckey is a combo PG/SG who is a long term proven nBA player who simply is playing better with a better team. A guy who has obviously worked hard on his 3 pt mechanics. But Stuckey is not a volume 3 point shooter and you dont really want that from your 6th man--hes a do it all and hes explosive. Pass handle rebound shoot think powerful athletic build 6-4/6-5 225. IF and thats a bIG IF IF Hardaway can take the role of our 3 point shooting specialist--I like the pitbulls in Stuckey and Galloway with Alex as my do it all. Injury--Im covered. Stuckey is perfect for what we have in place.

Im not worried about overpaying anyone--when you tell me Im paying Cole too much at 2mm per--come on yellow--and lets be fair to Admundson--he earned his money and we should pay him. What the heck do you want--you need a balanced payroll.

Kanter is a near lock no brainer for me as well as Stuckey. I dont really see that many FA that I like. Since this Alex revelation and the fact that I think Cole is much better than weve given credit for--no need to go for the Anijcas Mo Williams or even Carroll's--no need to spend the money.

Bargs and Shved have cap holds that are quite large. They'd have to renounce their Bird rights to get cap space. Bargnani's cap hold is $12M and I believe Shved's is 150% of his qualifying offer - so $6M.

They can't just sit on their Bird rights or they'll have $18M less in cap room for next season. Of course, by the time they actually have to decide to renounce their cap space or not it will be the end of the moratorium and we'll pretty know where every big free agent is going.

I'm with Briggs though - 100% you re-sign Shved to a reasonable deal.

Hope we can find someone to take Calderon and Timmy in a trade or something.

Guys we should retain and updated free agency
