Towns, Monroe, and Danny green. Start with those 3 and build from there with smart low budget free agent signings.

C Monroe
F towns
F Anthony
G green
G Galloway
6th shved
7th bargnani or Ajinca

All good stuff and we have good flex. I also think we keep money open for '16 but me thinks draft towns or Ok4 we go after Butler.

Young enough you give him a 4 year deal with opt out after 2 to bring him up to scale. Its what Melo did and Houstan did. Lebron will do this about annually until he gets his longer term deal done.

Ok4
Bargs
Melo
Butler
Some other dude.

Or

Monroe
Bargs
Melo
Russell
Some other dude

My spidy sense thinks because we did not release Bargs we'll retain him. He is not the golden Mooby by any stretch, but its possible there is a plan to rehab him and bring him along.
His skill set just makes a lot of sense. We'll pay him and he won't kill our future.

Just a thought.

Yeah so since this is roughly the roster that will be returning, who can we realisticlly add to this to make next year a winning season?

What Is our record again?

Pf: If we are fortunate, a first rounder who can handle the attention and weight of New York
Sf: to be determined, a key position that demands defensive chops
c : a clone of a 26 year old Marcus Camby
1 guard: an All Star calibre leader
2 guard: a 47 per cent shooter

Sixth Man: a 31 year old Carmelo Anthony on fragile knees
7: ThJr, if he can regain his confidence and learn to play basketball
8: Lou Amundson, every team needs a good story
9: a 6'8 summer league surprise with a handle, I miss Anthony Mason
10: Shved, with an opportunity to make the rotation

11: Jason Smith
12: another center

Honestly if all those guys come back, just fire Phil already. Why would you want the same bums thats leading one of the worst Knicks seasons?

Keep 5 or 6 of the cheaper bums & stick them in slots 9-15, then never talk about them again.

We need new players to fill the top 7 slots that are gonna actually play.

Phil better get to work doing some creative maneuvering to make that happen.

I want to hear about the guys that are gonna play, not sit at the end of the bench.

Cuz they are under contract.

I only added bargs, shved and lou because they are positively contributing.....

I didn't include wear, alrich, Jason smith, acy, lance thomas or Calderón...if Phil brought any of those guys back then Phil should be fired.

Did you notice there are 7 slots missing?

We should be able to fill 7 slots with players that push guys out of the rotation

When you look at it in this realistic way you can see that 2-3 key additions will have a huge impact on the team for next year. If we could draft a Towns and sign a guard like Danny Green I think that would be a very good outcome. There will be some solid players available to Phil. Especially some of these bigs and SG's.

I like Marco myself.

Jarebko might do well in our system as well.

Do you see 7 guys you can plug into the the group I posted in the title post?

Right now you can't factor Calderón into the plans with Shved here.

We owe Thanasis a contract for next season

You have to resign Bargnani even if you think he belongs on the bench. He's worth being in the rotation.

Lou has to stay because of his professionalism and work ethic. That's valuable to a team that is going to need leadership going forward.

We have money but we can't just waive the whole team and buy 14 new players. We need some continuity.

Lou has to go to reserves along with Bargs/Jason Smith and I would try to add a veteran pg guard there. Now we have 4 spots on the bench to fill out and 3 starting spots to fill out. Who we draft and where we choose to play Melo has a big impact on who we sign.
If we draft a Big and Melo plays 4, then we sign a decen't SF like Carroll, Green or Caspri. If Melo plays the 3 in that situation then we have to get a PF.

here's who phil is going to end up with

omri cassp1
benenelli
austin dye
robin lopez
jerbko
omer askik
luke babbit
jason smith
greg monroe

a bunch of jump shooting stiffs and a couple of low IQ players..anyone who will settle for a 1 yr contract. After the first wk of FA when the top FA will blow smoke up phils ass, he'll scramble to get a 2nd tier players, pay him 10 mill more than any team on the market, and fill out the roster with 1 yr guys who will play like crap because they know their not part of the durant sweep stakes.

Durant will be traded next season to a contender (aka melo leaving denver) and phil will start making assinine trades for over the hill players..Fisher will get fired ( i mean step down for family reasons) around december when we are 10 games below 500.

yr 3 dolan is like fck it man, tells phil to kick rocks, phil will once again state health reason and step down..you know the rest

When I read it even I felt gloomy, but it is based on what is really going on so 1248 is far closer to the probable outcome than most others. If Phil doesn't nail this off-season I see little chance of him or Fish lasting the length of their contracts. Having money to spend doesn't mean it gets spent on ideal targets or spent wisely. It will take a small miracle for things to align so there is still hope, but its very slim at this point.

The biggest upside is probably the draft pick. If they somehow get the right player and they turn out to be a total stud, that could save the franchise far more than this free agency will. So hope they draft well. Free agency right now is probably overrated in the impact it will have on next year.

This is not a destination. It is pretty much a turn-off. No 1st or 2nd tier player will come here if they can get a comparable deal on the majority of the other clubs. Phil's best shot is filling the roster with cheap players and hoping 2 or 3 of them turn out to be gems he can extend. Chasing free agents and overpaying would probably doom this franchise once and for all.

I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!

he really only has to convince 2-3 solid guys to jump ship... whether we have to overpay or gamble a little the market will dictate that.... but it's not a totally lost cause...

the biggest acquisition will by far be the draft pick... and we just have to pray to the basketball gods for some ping pong balls for that..

melo + towns... that's not a bad start to a good season...

It's not just a competition for players with the whole league. Only a few teams will have the cap space and even fewer teams actually looking to spend their cap space on free agents. Some teams like Portland and Atlanta will be trying to bring back their own Free Agents and that will cost them. Boston and Philly are less likely to be in the market for costly free agents even tho they have cap space.

Unrestricted Free Agents as i've listed above are free to do what they want and are the low hanging fruit for Phil to try and pick off. There will be players available to Phil who can help this team.
