this is a disaster. Last time we played Melo at the 4 exclusively we won 54 games.

Question for DK: Who's your new favorite poster boy?
I remember it was Danillo is better value than Melo. Now he sucks, cant stay healthy and when he is he sucks.
Then it was Melo will never be a player of Paul George's caliber. Now he's broken and rehabbing his career.

Who's next? Pretty soon we can play the DK dead pool lol

off the top of my head:

jimmy butler
paul george
paul milsap
kawhi leonard
paul pierce
luol deng
taj gibson
joakim noah
al horford
brandon bass

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Now have you actually seen any of them play? Or is this like your draft opinions where your making judgements on players whom you have never actually seen play? Just curious

a guy like tobias harris would be an intersting combo with melo... they would alternate at the 4 when sharing the court and go back to the 3 when one sits....

I do however like small ball but I didn't like the way the Knicks ran it with basically 3 combo guards. I would much rather have two combo forwards surrounded by traditional player's. Shump was not able to attack the Boozers and Wests when guarded by them. He was too inconsistent.

If the Knicks want to use the triangle they will need another forward who is comfortable on the perimeter but who can switch defensively and guard multiple positions.

that is where I see the problem

Say we get a Greg Monroe to play the PF, he doesn't have the ability to defend some PF's, especially the stretch 4's, at which CA will have to defend, Monroe play's Center? Which he will also be mismatch on on size. My point is, we have to build a team that can only have 1 weak position at best, with the other 4 being good/great and versatile in order to be contenders

That is why I am high on a player like Draymond Green
Thas is why I thought we should have moved up in the Tim Hardaway JR draft for Giannnes or even drafted Gobert
It is very hard to build a team around CA's weakness's and inabilities, without much young studs to work with and future picks, with limited salary and our tax rate/cost of living *property* being so high to persue FA's

Not to offend Fish but his opinion about Melo used to be similar to yours. He just didn't have the obsession that you do.

During our 54 win season we had Brewer and Shump at SF. Shump is 6"5 and Brewer is 6"7. I don't know exactly what qualifies as a tall SF but I think we can get by with one who can defend and hit the 3.

if dolan did not have an obsession with melo this would not be an issue. but he did and set the team back for what i believe will end up being about 7 years.

fishmike may have had a similar position to my own but that is no justification for the position he maintains now.

With the exception of gunsewing, dktkf is truly the last of his kind.

"Hello my name is dktkf and I hate Melo. And no one and nothing is going to change my opinion or validate any opinion that differs from mine."

Not even 54 wins and the second round?

"No, that was all on Jason Kidd. Of course, I didn't watch those games, but I also happen to know Rasheed Wallace was also key to that entire fool's gold facade."

But didn't you once post about Melo having a nice stat line against Indy one year?

"Temporary insanity."

What about Paul Pierce's opinion of Melo?

"PP can outplay Melo everyday of the week forever, but he's an outright idiot when it comes to valid NBA player analysis."

We notice you don't mention Gallo or Denver anymore, care to comment?

"fishmike is a moron."

Does anyone know if any other team has given out a max contract of five years to a 30 or more year old player before?

I know Kobe got a ridiculous final contract from the Lakers, but that was not a 4 or 5 year deal.

It seemed obvious to a handful of people Melo's signing was epic stupidity immediately, especially with the homerific terms of no trade clause and the $17M trade kicker, but now in hindsight many more can see how bad a move it was.

Yet some think Phil hasn't done anything particularly wrong enough to warrant him being given a scathing performance review.

So does anyone know if another team ever handed out this kind of contract to a 30+ player?

So nobody knows of a contract to a 30 year old comparable to Melo's?

LA will get it this year.

Lebron would have gotten it obviously.

Amare? He had the legs of a 40 year old.

Chris Bosh was a pretty big contract.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Stat was an old body, but wasn't Amare around 27 years old when we signed him? He had wear on him, because he came into the league when he was still wearing diapers.

Bosh goes down.

Lebron may have shown signs of wear this year. His next contract could be another calculated risk. He's got plenty of mileage on him too.

Seems like the no long contract rule over a certain age is just a good policy.

Anyway, I was asking because it just seems to consistently glossed over when discussing Phil Jackson. It is like some think he walks on water, but signing Melo was a total clusterfuk. How can he not be considered seriously misguided for this?

It was among his terrible moves but we don't know he full story, perhaps the one condition on Phil getting the driver's seat from Dolan was that he had to resign Melo no matter what, and Melo being Melo, he took advantage of hit and got himself a huge contract. Dolan proabbly wanted to make money with viewership so that could be a potential reason. In general it was the epitome of utter stupidty, but we as fans don't know the whole story, we can only speculate.

of course that is what happened. Now he has to live with that and perhaps deal with a tarnished legacy.

From what I have seen, what will set Phil apart from all the other GM's is:
-How he handles the draft
-Who he signs in FA
-How he fills out remnants of roster spots.
This will give us:
-Does he have a plan?
-If he does have a plan is it a good one that will help us now and in the future?

Yeah Bosh and Melo are pretty much the same money wise. Also both guys are from the same draft class. I am sure LBJ gets that contract if he didn't want to wait and negotiate his deal after the cap went up.
