Galloway's +/- #s are fantastic. He's tracked as mostly playing off guard, and opposing offguards are shooting an incredibly low .388 EFG% (this factors for 3's and FTs)... so if you think that Galloway is having a positive impact and playing top flight defense the #s are backing that up.

The #s look good for a min contract rookie. You're right about his defense too.
That said, the +/- #s basically just indicate that the team is doing a lot better with him than with Calderon or anyone else at PG.
they have logged him mostly at SG, so a large sampling there is with him playing w/ Calderon which they had been alot. I was mostly interested in what the opposing player does, and that opposing FG% I posted is a very impressive # granted its a small sample size. The point is the #s reflect the eyeball test which is Galloway is playing excellent defense. He doesnt just *look* like he's playing it, the guys he's guarding are shooting very very poorly.

Here is the post I was referring to earlier.

This goes under the “looking for any silver lining” category, but we’re 18 games- nearly 25% of a season – into Galloway’s career and his defensive #s are actually getting better as the sample size grows. In fact I did a quick look through the reputation-ally great backcourt defenders in the league (Tony Allen, Chris Paul, Wesley Matthews, George Hill, Eric Bledsoe, etc.) and Galloway’s numbers are way better than any of theirs — and that’s with zero rim protection behind him — no Gasol, Jordan, Lopez, Hibbert, etc.

http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/204038/tracking/defense/

his shooting continues to suck (TS 48) but he’s shooting semi-adequately from 3P range (34%) and my feeling is he is taking a lot of shots that he wouldn’t be taking in any offense with actual, you know, NBA talent on it.

He remains a great rebounder for a guard – top 5 if we consider him a PG, top 11 or so if we consider him a SG according to the Hollinger player stats. And he really never turns the ball over — best in the league if we consider him a PG, would be 4th in the league as SG.

Fair enough. I watched early in the season but lost interest when the team kept losing.
The +/- is still partly inflated because the players subbing for him suck but I give him credit for doing well too.

Player tracker stats has players shooting 33.2% when defended by Langston. Also, players shoot 25.7% from 3 when defended by Galloway. Those are some staggering numbers.

forget the +/-

Look at his "Opponent Counterpart 48-Minute Production" - essnetially nobody is scoring on him. Its an impresive # that opposing FG%

By far Beverely is a better defender however, they are comparable in the sense that they both were signed for NOTHING and have similar skill sets, though Galloway is the better shooter that Beverely has worked on much the past 2 seasons while Beverely is the much better defender

At this point, I am not sure if Galloway will be a staring PG material or a rotational player off the bench, as a PG/SG
However, he is still a great find

Though the PG position doesn't need to be able to penetrate as much as in other systems versus the Triangle
Whether he is able to be a starting PG for the Triangle depends on the other 4 players/talents on the floor

We currently do NOT have players such as Jordan/Pippn/Rodman/Kukoc, Shaq/Kobe/Horry *a big part of their OFFENSE*, or Kobe/Pau Gasol/Bynum/Odom/Ariza
Kobe was also a great defender and had the ability to penetrate/handle the basketball and could initate the OFFENSE through the POST, that drew double/triple teams, and a very good passer
The league has also changed much since Shaq, with the zone defense imployed

For the reason, I believe we will need a player that has the ability to penetrate/facilitate/finish with contact in another position if Galloway is the PG or we must have a combination of talents that has the ability to initiate through the POST in deep post position and mid range, with the skills to initiate the OFFENSE/FACILITATE/SCORE/ and pass out of double teams with multiple players that could DEFEND/REBOUND and SHOOT to spread the floor on top of the ability to POST UP and facilitate

That is some pretty insane (and true) praise for Galloway. We might have "lucked out" again. Clearly with little to no rim protection behind him his defensive numbers are remarkable. We have a team of backups for the most part but I wonder once we get some talent on the team what Gallo's numbers are going to become (better is my bet.)

Also, if Shved keeps this up, I wonder the same thing. There is a lot of pressure on this team as they are constantly overmatched and to see some light shining through on these guys really gives them some promise to coming back next year, even if it is off the bench, but I won't put it past a few of them (e.g. Gallo, Bargs, Shved, etc.) to shine.

Only thing about the 82 games #s I posted is he defending SGs. Impressive #s he's putting up considering he's only 6'2 (wingpsan) but I would like to see Gallo guard the opposing PG.

Beverley is certainly a better player than Galloway, but Galloway so far seems to be a good player.

I think how much Galloway works this off season would impact the deciosn whether or not he is starting NBA material.
On a side note: Galloway to make all Rookie team?(POY out of question cuz of Wiggins)

He has been in Sheridan's top 10 for rookies almost every week since he was called up.

Interesting and I would agree, he is top ten for pretty much every stat in terms of rookies and top 5 for a good number of them, would be nice to have a good takeway from this season.

I say Langston wins by TKO no later than the 7th round. Will it be pay per view?

+1 fish.
I like the guy we have.

Bruce Bowen, Avery Johnson, Starks, Mason, Ben Wallace, Brad Miller, Jose Calderon , Darrell Armstrong... there are a lot of really good NBA that have gone undrafted. Its a hard road to make it a great career in the NBA, but it certainly happens. Langston certainly fits the profile. Who's to say the Knicks didnt get a true gem here? Defensively he's really got a high ceiling because of his wingspan and athleticism. #s back that up as well.

Really looking forward to seeing him play with higher caliber talent.

Does the GM get any credit for that? Seeing a player in the summer, signing him to the D league, grooming him, bringing him up and now he's rated as a top 10 rookie after being undrafted? Would that factor into anyone's assesment of what Phil is doing here? Or has that WHOLE process just been dumb luck?

11ppg, 5rebs, 3assists while playing impact defense is a hell of a good start for this guy. 3:1 TO ratio and very impressive defensive stats from 82games

I haven't said it but I do give Phil credit for that, potentially with thanis too if he pans out next season (fingers crossed). A few others have too.

It's not dumb luck until we trade him and 3 first round picks for Rudy Gay.
