Like a 4-5 year vet? If this guy is like Gasol, then that means he has hall of fame talent potential, does he really have that?

I like the enthusiasm though.

A couple of years ago the Knicks didnt even have Vucevic on their draft board let alone try to move up 1-2 spots for him. They had Chris Singelton and Iman Shumpert as their targets--just mildly off the mark there. I mean think about that they had Singleton rated higher than Vucevic.

Here is something that I have learned a long time ago---7 footer with skills are a rare breed. It is obvious that he has in out offensive potential he might be an inch shorter than gasol(my guess is 6-11.5 to 7-0.5) with with a mildly smaller wingspan but he'll be hard guard especially when he gets up to 250 or so. I don't know who I can compare his skills to--hes very skilled. Not many players like him

It's real easy to sit here now after the fact and laugh that we had Singleton and Shump rated higher than Vucevic because all anyone had to go on is what they did in college and there's no way to predict how any player will adjust their game to the NBA so it's not fair to do now that we've seen what they have done. So you're obviously a Kaminsky fan and so am I but tell me which players you put above him in this draft for the Knicks?

You never know if Phil might trade down in the draft if he was offered the right package to do so like if he was offered to trade down into the middle of the first and a first rounder in next year's draft which we don't have right now and if Kaminsky is still there when we pick I can absolutely see Phil picking him because he's perfect for a Phil Jackson triangle team.
How would a Kaminsky/G.Monroe combo look down low? The defense wouldn't be the best but those two would be a fun combo to watch down low. How about Kaminsky and Draymond Green? We could do a lot with a guy like Kaminsky.

Thats a nice break down. Exactly what i expected from both players. Both shows potential. ...Kaminsky shows more range than i expected. And less strength on the block....hes a perfect twin tower option when paired with a defensive center.....similar to what most said about OK4. It really depends on your system. OK4 and Melo will cancel each other out on offense....and both will be liabilities on defense. I think Kaminsky's defensive IQ is higher than OK4.....and OK4 is light years ahead of Kaminsky on the block.

Im happy with either player. This draft is not loaded with potential superstars so FA pickups will define this team....not the draft.

I still like Towns as the #1 pick with his potential....i also like Mudiay for the same reasons. POTENTIAL POTENTIAL POTENTIAL....in my Dick Vital voice.

I think OK4 would push Melo away from the basket some, and I think thats a good thing. Neither are very good defensively but both rebound very well and controlling the boards is a big part of defending and controlling tempo.

Here's something scary... what if OK4 gets better? I mean Ive heard people talk about how he has a lower ceiling than Towns. Dude puts up 20ppg on 65% at 19 years old and does it with NBA footwork. I mean if *that* improves your talking about one of the best post scorers in the NBA. Ever. His hands are so big he may always struggle to develop a good jumper. Phil Phil what will you do.....

interesting... I just NBAdraft.net writeup on Frank:
Weaknesses: The most obvious one is his subpar level of athleticism and lateral movement, but one of the main concerns with him ironically is on offense ... It’s possible to find a role for him defensively where he won’t be exploited, he has length after all, but will he be able to succeed in an offensive system different from the one he thrives in at Wisconsin? The fact that he struggled so mightily in the wide open format in front of so many scouts at adidas Nations in the summer has to be a conern ... Theoretically he is the perfect guy to play in the triangle offense, in a way that maybe only Pau Gasol did, and certainly he could find his place an offense like the Spurs (every high IQ player could) ... But could he survive in more ISO oriented offenses where he will not have the ball in his hands much? A lot will depend on his consistency shooting, the percentages show us he is improving but the NBA 3 pointer is a different animal and though the high release will help Kaminsky a lot in shooting over people, his release is pretty slow and could be a problem ... The talent is there but he has to show he can use it at the next level, and his limited upside (because he is already almost at the top of his game) and older age might scare some team away (Tyler Zeller was a much better/faster athlete and he fell to 20 as a senior, and has been traded)... Another big question mark is how will he deal with NBA physicality on both ends of the floor ... He could potentially guard 5s but only if he adds strength to his body, while the 4 position could be too fast and explosive for him ... And on offense people may push him out of the blocks too easily ... The fact that he didn;t really do anything in his first two seasons in college is also a slight concern. Is he just a late bloomer, or is he taking advantage of players younger than himself as an upperclassman? ... All that being said, we are talking about a player with a rare set of skills, who in the right system could utilize his abilities and become a great role player ...

Read this prior to watching the game on CBS and kind of used it to evaluate his play against Mich. St..

Possibly the best analysis on the Web for Kaminsky.

I think Jackson would like him, but not in the draft slot we will hopefully be picking in.

he will have trouble defending the PnR, leading to a WIDE OPEN SHOT EVERYTIME it is run against him with his mobiity/lack of speed/quickness/athleticism

He is very skilled on OFFENSE though
With the ability to stretch out the the 3pt line with his height and ability to score in the post with deep position 1v1

Because of his weakness on DEFENSE, I do not see him being a staring Center until he is able to work on his mobility/defense

Maybe BIG Z of Cleveland resembles him best when he was a bit older with the surgeries though he is has much more talent than BIG Z
BIG Z did have a very good mid range shot but not a 3pt shot like Frank Kaminski

My point was pretty simple. All he said comparing the two players was

Were looking for the next big thing but Frank Kaminsky reminds me an awful lot of Paul Gasol with more range?

You need a little more depth to the analysis if you are gonna compare a soon to be rookie to someone like Gasol.

Gasol shoots 51% for his career - his 3 percentage is low but I'm sure his 3 attempts aren't many.

18 ppg - 9 rebs - 1.6 blocks.

If he is that similar to Gasol, as soon as we fall to 4th in the draft we should take him.

BRIGGS provides a lot of reading & I'm down with that but I think the original post needs some justification.

Did Pau Gasol have hall of fame talent when he was drafted? Im not understanding your point. The draft is all about potential since nobody actually played in the nba. Not sure how anybody in nba history had hall of fame talent without playing a single nba game.

But to help vision his potential ceiling...its easier to compare him to nba players just to get a feel for his nba potential. Now i could be wrong....but i played at a high level....with nba players. Ive watched basketball players develop. So this is just my perspective. I know every draft there are players that are over looked. My excitement is trying to predict players performance at the nba level... With this guy....ive actually watched him b4 most people said anything about him. I think hes a safe pick....But we need a second pick to get him.

Frank Kamnisky reminds me a little of Pau Gasol. I dont think he IS Pau Gasol but I cant deny this is a 7 footer who has unusual offensive skills like Gasol. I think someone brought it up well--is he more Bargs than gasol--he might be right. Its up to Kaminsky and the team who drafts him to get his body weight to 247-252 and make sure he plays more inside than outside. Hes got great skill in the post--to me he doesnt utilize it enough.

I see Christian laetner. Best case Brad Miller, worst case Todd Fuller. I'll throw in a Terry Mills wild card for you Briggs lol

I actually think this is a very good draft. Some of these players have a ton of upside and potential to be stars. I wish we had more than one pick. Some of these guys have some very impressive raw talent that will develop over time and surprise people. Take a kid like Kelly Oubre who if he comes out won't be close to his full potential, but I like his upside. It's just really hard to project with some of the players in this draft but I think there are a good amount of players who could turn out much better than they may look right now.

I agree w blkexec... plenty of good players, I dont see a ton of franchise guys. This draft looks very deep but not very top heavy. At the end of the day there will probably be as many all star appearances from the guys picked 6-12 as the guys picked 1-5

Laetner is pretty good comparison. But he was also a good NBA player. I think Frank--if he puts on a hrd 10 pounds and goes to his full inside outside potential will be a nice player. I think the extra length that gasol may have is still a lot in the NBA game. an inch in height and three inches in wingspan = a lot. Certainly Frank is 10 times the outside shooter Laetner was.

Centers in general have a higher value than forwards in this league, that's why I had Brad Miller as a best case. Kaminsky will add millions to his bank account if he proves he can play center.

just to give you an idea... towns, russell or ok4 could have been #1 or at worse #2 for any draft other than 2007(oden/durant)...

towns is a notch below embiid as a center prospect but towns doesn't have the injury question marks... ok4 compares very favorably to someone like blake griffin(not physically but their offensive and rebounding impact) and russell you could argue is a better prospect than harden since he has better freshman numbers...

Hello, I'm the new guy. I'm hoping Frank Kaminsky is the 3rd option if the Knicks miss out on Karl Anthony Towns and D'angelo Russell. His game is similar to Pau Gasol so i can see Phil selecting him.

If we had pick #4 and I could pick up Kaminsky AND Christian Wood by trading down--I would "consider" doing it. If I could get the Lakers 5 27 and 34 for 3 Id consider it.

Laettner was no bust. Was picked 3rd, played 12 seasons on some god awful team. Made allstar team at age 27 with 18pts 9 reb avg. He had some very good years.
The hype? dude went to final 4 FOUR TIMES.
The Hype? Won two championships.
The hype? He will be in the HOF for his college career and gets some cred for his NBA career.
The expectation? Injuries, awful teams, and he was a dyck for sure.

Look at the draft that year: http://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_1992.html

Other than Spree taken at 24 Laetner had a better career than anyone taken after him. After shaq and alonzo, you had Laetner. Then Jim Jackson, Laphonso Ellis, Googs, Walt williams, todd day, Spoon,..........

Is Frank Kaminsky a Pau Gasol the 2nd?
