Heck, I already figured he was selfish and greedy. Put us in the position where we have give up a lot to do the original sign and trade so he can benefit from the 5 year deal, then opts out of the last year (Walsh f'd up there), in essence taking the 4 year FA deal that he did not want, and then gets what amounts to a Max deal (with another player option!), giving the team little wiggle room cap-wise, and even gets a no trade clause and 10M bonus if he is traded.
If he really wanted to come to the Knicks he could have waited and gotten the same money for 4 years that he ended up getting by opting out of the final year of his first contract, and the Knicks would have had more player flexibility and not lost draft picks.
He showed he was selfish and greedy by wanting to play in London and the All-Star game. Never been an Anthony fanboy, or a member of the new UK board splinter group, CAA (Carmelo Anthony Apologists), and I would not have given him the contract he got, but if he said he was hurting and we had proof in the form of medical tests, why would anyone say he was selfish about shutting it down?
As some have just said, the Knicks would have looked like fools signing him to the contract they signed him to if the injury was pre-existing.
I thought Jackson came away looking weak by giving him the contract he gave him. I can only hope that he did get a physical and a clean bill of health before this latest contract. Isn't it necessary to have a physical for insurance purposes?
If Phil did sign a 30 year old player knowing that he was damaged goods, he looks worse than anyone during this whole fiasco.
