Because it seems that we have two competing plans right now. Plan A is to tank and build through the draft; at best this will take several seasons. Plan B is to use our cap space to build around a soon to be 31-year old Melo coming off of major knee surgery. We basically have through the Summer of 2016 to complete this plan, at best. To complicate matters, there aren't many impact free agents this Summer and the few that are around either don't want to switch teams or are RFAs whose teams' will match an offer.

Actually, we haven't. The worst 82-game seasons we've ever had were 85-86, 05-06, and 07-08; we went 23-59 each of those seasons. We're currently on pace for 14 wins. In attempting to turn last year's team into a playoff team he created, by far, the worst team in franchise history. In fact, not only is this certainly going to be the worst season in franchise history, if we only win 14 games we'll be tied for the 8th worse season in NBA history. For all the justifiable **** Hinkie gets, his 76ers haven't been this bad and they were actively trying to be terrible.

Really? Go back and take a look at some of the threads prior to the season. Calderon was a huge upgrade over Felton; Shumpert was going to be revitalized playing in the triangle; Dalembert was a reasonable replacement for Tyson, if not better; Larkin, whose option we didn't pick up so he won't be back next year anyway, was a nice young player with potential; Hardaway was going to improve on last season. The general consensus was that we were a 40+ win team that was going to get a max free agent this Summer to put us over the top.
EnySpree wrote:right now we have a skeleton roster.... everything is setting up the draft and free agency. We're going to get a top 4 pick. We can sign whoever wants to come here. We have a coach in place. We're running a system that players can see what we're trying to do here. So there's no guessing game.
Why so hostile and angry? I just don't get it. The sky is the limit in my opinion. We're set up to do nothing but improve no matter what happens.
Phil got off to a bad start by trading one of our only assets, Tyson Chandler, for next to nothing and taking back salary in the deal. He bid against himself by giving Melo a slightly less than supermax contract with a no-trade clause. A year after entertaining offers for Shumpert that would have brought back draft picks we gave him away in a salary dump. We have one player, maybe two if you count Calderon, that should be getting regular playing time on a decent NBA team. Hopefully, that number jumps to 3 after the draft. But, for some reason, we're not scouring the D-League to bring in guys that might be able to help. Instead, we're wasting roster spots on Bargnani and Amundson; guys who have been in the league for years and are clearly terrible. And, considering we don't have enough cap space to fill in our open spots with good players this Summer, we desperately need to luck into a diamond in the rough.
But you're right, we're probably going to improve. It's hard to get any worse than what we are today.

How beautiful if nothing more
Than to wait at Zion's door
I've never been in love like this before
Now let me pray to keep you from
The perils that will surely come
