People complain about Phil but in his short time he's actually added some assets.

he has given away more than he has added ...

the early tally is a big net negative but its early.

We had no picks last year and he added 3 last draft and a 2019 2nd. 2 more in this deal. Plus he got some young prospects to look at. Considering what we want to do is rebuild that's not terrible. Not great but not terrible. I wouldn't say it's a net negative tho.

net negative because he gave up assets (mainly tyson) that could have gotten far more in return and to top it off, he got stuck with Calderon.

So, a good GM would / should have been in a much better position at this point as far as maximizing on the little that we had and compiling the most assets in exchange.

He had two big assets, Tyson and Melo and he has struck out big time on both.

Perhaps you think Flu Tyson had more value but in the end we did get picks and prospects. You don't know for sure that we could've gotten more.

i don't think we're in too bad a shape... we've moved felton/smith and took on calderon if you look at it from the big scheme of things...

shump/chandler could have had more value and we might've been able to squeeze a couple of first rd picks for them but...

shump - he was young enough where it was reasonable to expect some improvement so i can't really fault the knicks for waiting it out on him...

chandler - he was the opposite... he had a lot of miles on him and there were lots of signs of him breaking down.. in either case i doubt chandler was going to perform the way he has this year for us.. and if he did... we would not be in the position we were draft pick wise if he was still on the team... even 5 more wins for us would have been catastrophic in our chances at #1...

So you believe Tyson would have raised his stock playing in the triangle in this season with the Knicks?

I believe he should have been traded before last years trade deadline along with melo and we could have started compiling valuable assets instead of moving backwards like we are doing.

I think the proper description of the Knicks situation is that they bottomed out and are now on the way back up. It wasn't the original plan but it was always the plan B for this team. If things didn't work Phil was always ready to pull the plug. Now we're on this path and it's a good direction.

It starts with the Draft and Free Agency this summer. You've made up your mind before we even had a chance to see what Phil does with the roster.

made up my mind? I am judging him on what I have seen so far and its been quite ugly. And of course, what I see is meaningless since we are all amateurs at best.

When plan A fails, you go to plan B, if that fails then there is always plan C, if that fails then you can always just blame Dolan and hope that the fans are dumb.

Will plan B be better than plan A? I am sure it will since it can't be worse.

I am a dumb die hard so of course I still hold out hope as I did through all these hopeless years.

We now have more assets and more cap room for an over 40 player planning to play overseas next year.

Probably one of Phils best trades. Pablo wasn't a keeper. So we got something for nothing.

exactly.. and it continues PHil's trend of adding picks rather than trading them (Tyson trade).

Adding picks so we can resemble what we are now for the for seeable future, aka philly, mini, sac, cavs(without labron).

Fish you know picks don't build teams, trades and FA build teams. Your not getting Know real assets in the 2nd round.

If all Houston got for 2 late 2nd rnd picks is a 40 yr old savy player on his last leg, what do you think phil would get if he traded those same picks, KG or KD? and phil isn't Isiah when it comes to drafting.

Im not being pessimistic either, I'm being realistic. Your going to be real piss when he has to over pay for every and any FA, and that list has to mike tyson hit since the season started.

You guys are really not paying attention at all. You're focused on the shinny objects and simply not able to see the whole picture. No matter how many times it's laid out for you. I simply can't understand the lack of insight. You guys totally miss what's happening with the franchise from top to bottom and it's been happening for a while now.

Phil has installed his culture and philosophy and system for the franchise's D League and NBA teams. This is no small thing. He has a blueprint for what kind of team he wants to build.
Phil has been adding prospects and assets despite what some think of the players we got rid of. Those players didn't fit the new culture.
Phil will have his chance to remake the team over the next year plus and it's a process designed to produce sustained success. You can't see it all now cuz it hasn't been fully executed yet.
If you were paying attention you would notice that he's been trying to bring in players who have the right skills and mindset for this culture and system. That's a very positive change from the past. The longer we continue operating this way the more positive results it will produce.

it would be extremely silly to judge a guy after 1 terrible year out of 5.

If the losing continues, I guaranty you Phil will voluntarily resign. Why would he want another poor year in his illustrious CV

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Yep- where were all these know-it-alls when we actually made the trade? Now with the power of hindsight they act like they knew all along. To be honest I think people enjoy blasting Phil because it lets them pretend to themselves and others that they're smarter than him

Every GM makes mistakes. EVERY GM!!! That alone isn't really what is most important. You can talk all kinds of BS now cuz we haven't reached the Draft or Free Agency yet. Now if Phil has a horrible draft and blows it in Free Agency then you can have all the fun you want jumping on that, but as of right now there's really nothing major to hang your hat on. Just a bit of complaining that Plan A didn't work, maybe he could've gotten more for this guy or that guy. You can complain that he didn't shut down Melo soon enough YADDA YADDA YADDA! None of it matters if we have a great Draft and Free Agency.

He put himself in a position where he has one draft pick and can easily / most likely swing and miss. Instead, he should have put himself in a position where he has numerous swings / chances over the next 2 drafts. HE HAS ONE. Why? See plan A.

A good GM puts himself in position where he can make a lot of mistakes because they compiled enough ammo to do so.

Again, I am not predicting the future, I am commenting on the past. I will leave the future drawings to you to tell us how great things are definitely gonna turn out.

He gave himself very little wiggle room so now he needs to hit a few half court flings to be successful instead us setting himself up with numerous lay ups.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

You don't know for sure that we could've gotten more.

yes we do know, c'mon man!

So you believe Tyson would have raised his stock playing in the triangle in this season with the Knicks?

I believe he should have been traded before last years trade deadline along with melo and we could have started compiling valuable assets instead of moving backwards like we are doing.

So phil should have traded him before he became team president? that's honestly your criticism of Phil?

that was just his first mistake(s), my criticism goes far beyond that since compounded this with many more mistakes.

With what was he supposed to get all these wonderful assets?!?!?! Our roster was filled with players with negative value! At best Tyson could have got you 1 late first rounder, as oppose to the 2 2nd rounders we got.
