I think Lopez is perfect at the right price. So is Gasol

He's shown a nice baseline spin to the rack, turn around jumpers and decent ability to put it on the floor. He literally needs to get his life together. Like how good do you want to be bitch? He could be like Tom Gugliotta if he really wanted to.

To hell to J Smith. His jumper is all he has. You should require a lot more from your big man.

agree to a point, but those "requirements" come with a price tag. I mean do you want to pay Jason Smith $5mm a year or Greg Monroe or DeAndre Jordan $15mm a year?

Jason Smith can play a nice role here yea. Ask him to do too much and he gets really really exposed. Lets see the other parts

Exactly. Smith can be retained for somewhat cheap. He is a great shooter and passer for a big man, and a perfect fit for the triangle. He's not a great rebounder or defender but let's put him next to someone who is and it will be fine. He can hopefully improve over time. He's a solid complimentary player.

Yup.

He seems to understand and fit into this offense perfectly, don't understand the hate some have for this guy. Even earlier in the year, when he was erratic at times, he showed an understanding of the Triangle.

Hope he comes back in better shape if we resign him, but if he gets about 25MPG at the 4/5 (more 4 than 5) he can be a valuable asset.

I don't think he's put himself out of our price range with his play, and I would hope he realizes that the Knicks are a good opportunity for him if he wants to play some good minutes in the future.

We need a shot blocker no matter who is at the 4, be it Smith or Anthony, whose future position is still up in the air, I would think.

Smith gives you some flexibility, works well with a guard, as shown by his success with Calderon, has an excellent midrange shot, and has even shown some range.

Unless he wants out, I cannot see Phil not resigning him.

I like Kanter as a cheaper young option, but I could understand if Phil went after Monroe or Lopez since they are more developed players. Kanter would seem like the smart play given his youth and chance to be developed even further. Don't like his lack of rim protection but I think he can be coached up to give more of an effort in that regard.

Kanter is another finesse guy and will cost more. He is not a rugged rim protector...

... and is a poor passer, so far.

I'm not a big fan of Jason Smith, put he's been playing well lately. I wouldn't cry if he left, but I'd take him on a cheap deal

i recall seeing one or two instances where he actually looked competent on defense. but all the other times not so much.

the defensive real plus minus metric on espn and he is 3rd from last among power forwards... yet another instance of the advanced numbers backing up or supporting what the eyes see.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%
