MoZgov was a great find for us and he got a great opportunity here to play. He started but was a foul machine and had to adapt. He had a few very good games and for a rookie it was fun to see it happen as a fan.
His situation in Denver was not just about his play, but about getting playing time behind Mcgee and Kostas Kofos. Mcgee was a project forced upon Karl and Mozgov also needed more time to develop. Lets not get too bent out shape for "Relative value" as the two no. 1 picks are heavily protected and defferred. Still good assets anyway you look at it.
Walsh was very much not in favor of emptying the cupboard for Melo but dolan was more concerned about the NEts Getting him and not having a star in his renovated arena. Logical buisness decision but an awful basketball one! After clearing cap space and the price for that, AND then making a big trade giving up yoot and picks it created a big problem. IN fact, Dolan figured the idiot congruence of running up his cap AND trading away depth!
Mozgov has a nice offensive game and would have been a good triangle man but lets be real, he was here THREE GM'S ago and Three coach's ago!!!!!!
He is a good 25 minute man who gives a good energy.
We are finding that JR and Shump who were part of our core are good ROLE players. Shump has that Shandon Anderson vibe about him. Not a bad player, just not a core player.
JR could not stop partying here. He said he would a few years ago and it got him 6thMOTY but after that he went back to his ways............
Talent was never an issue with him. Nothing to do but play basketball in clev? On a team with a few more alpha's he should be valuable to them and stay in line.
Timo was never to be a star, but a solid role player on a good team that 4 years later returned two no. 1 picks for!!!! He was a free agent!
Thats how you rebuild, keep assets, develop them and if a good deal comes along take it!
Back in the day once the Dyss trade blew up and our cupboard was starting to fill up under layden it was Isiah that leveraged it to build that dissaster!
We needed not a new owner, but a guy to change this franchise. For those critical of Phil you have to understand just how dire shape this franchise was in and years of neglectful trades and signings.
Instead of getting Kyle Lowrey and moving another pick we stopped putting patches to keep us mirred in mediocrity and let the natural order shake out.
This is going to take a while. More than even this summer in fact. Might even take longer than Phils contract to get this team into a solid yearly contender. Before you can even lay the foundation you have to tear down the existing problems.
Some fans will rant and rave over missed opportunities under a previous thought process, and others will point to "look at our record".
OKC in town, Durant Starphuch will be hyped.
BTW, here's how that could go down: see who we pick, how that pick developes, then see how Durant would fit in! Way too premature to even paint that scenario!!!!
