You always start with what he turned down

And who his agent is, and NBA Boom

Greg turned down 5yrs $60mil although he denies it

Based on technicalities of what's considered an official offer

His agent is David Falk so he's gonna want something like

$65-70mil is what will most likely get it done

Detroit can always trump a 4yr $48mil offer having Bird's Rights

Stay away from this clown

There ain't better big on the market. The best bigs (Gasol and Aldridge) WILL chose to re-sign with their respective teams.

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

I'd rather overpay for someone like Amir Johnson

Than Greg, overpay as in pay him more than what could be anticipated

Doing it for a loser and sloth like Monroe is pure stupidity

Can't be intoxicated with making bad choices because they are placed before you

You tank for a big man, get a quality big. You don't do it by going near max on Monroe. Guy would be such a big disappointment the tears will flood downtown all over again.

We have so many needs, we have to find a way to trade for a couple of first and second round draft picks. We need a tall PG, shooting guards who can play without the ball, PF and Center. Giving our current roster, we need more then 1 center. Everyone from the front court need to be traded or let expire. Deal Amare and Calderon to Miami for a first round draft pick. Deal no-Bargnani and Iman to the Clippers for two a first and second round draft picks. Do something to amass draft picks

How about a trade of Bargnani to the spurs for Kyle Anderson? He is the skilled tall PG that can operate as our Pippen

There used to be a segment on Mad TV which had an into with two obese people holding hands while a voiceover said "Lowered Expectations" and then they'd show a dating club video of some loser pitching himself as a potential mate. The tag line was "When you've been blown off by the rest, settle for second best".

He is a second best for first place money. He is competent for some offense, but he is hardly the IQ boost this club sorely needs.

An upgrade, but fairly one-dimensional and not a good value. Not a rebuild-worthy player. Pass.

I see......well, we are better off drafting our bigs

this guy is simply not that smart or great of a player, and he gets that from his idiotic teammate jennings and Smith

If he had such a "high IQ" he wouldn't be as terrible as he is on defense. Honestly, I'd rather just get a guy like Omer Asik, an above average defensive center

Yes, Amir Johnson is not flashy but a MUCH better value than Monroe who wants a ridic contract. Id much rather have a lunch pail guy like Amir. Good call. That's exaxtly the type we should target.

Also, people keep saying "well who else is gonna be available?" Ahem, just cause The marquee names aren't leaving their teams and second tier guys like Monroe are all that's left doesn't mean we HAVE to spend all our money on them. How about we maintain flexibility?

We need a true 7' that can pass the ball efficiently, anchor the defense, and is a double double machine. Basically, another Tyson Chandler

Following a failed series of long-term contract negotiations, big man Greg Monroe told the Pistons he'll sign the team's one-year, $5.5 million qualifying offer, according to USA Today's Jeff Zilgitt. Leaving possible long-term contracts on the table means Monroe will play out this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Monroe has until Oct. 1 to officially sign the contract. He will become only the 14th first-round pick to sign a qualifying offer since 2003. Of those 14, only one player, Spencer Hawes, eventually signed a long-term contract with the same team. There is still a chance Monroe doesn't play in Detroit next season: Zillgitt reports a sign-and-trade could still be a possibility, albeit an unlikely one.

Monroe was also mentioned as a target of the Trail Blazers, Pelicans and Wizards in the last few months, but he never received an offer sheet from another team that would have forced the Pistons to match, unlike fellow restricted free agents Gordon Hayward and Chandler Parsons. That doesn't mean there wasn't interest in Monroe this offseason. Two teams were willing to give Monroe a max deal, according to Zillgitt, but were unable to work out a sign-and-trade with the Pistons.

Throughout the process, one rumor indicated Monroe wouldn't re-sign with Detroit if Josh Smith was still on the team, but Monroe made sure to squash the whispers on Twitter. The big man also went to Twitter to quiet a report that he turned down a five-year, $60 million offer and a four-year, $58 million offer. The free agent said such offers were never put on the table.

Instead, the 24-year-old big man returns to the Pistons for one year in the hopes that he'll cash in when he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Monroe averaged 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last year while playing alongside Andre Drummond and Smith. Detroit won just 29 games in 2013-14, and while a talented but odd-fitting frontcourt has yet to find success, there's reason to believe the Pistons should be optimistic about the return of Monroe.

New coach and team president Stan Van Gundy had great success with the Orlando Magic by putting a perimeter-oriented team around center Dwight Howard, however. The fact that the Pistons could not come to a long-term agreement with Monroe indicates they may not value him as much as initially thought.

Who knows what Monroe would accept from the Knicks but I think it would be worth a shot. He may not be playing at full tilt for the Pistons. They're nearly as dysfunctional as the Knicks. He has talent and it's hard to acquire talent in this league. He could use more development but he's still young and has upside. It's all about fit and price. If Monroe fits what Phil envisions for the team then all that remains is the right price.

The Spurs would never in a million years do that.

I like Monroe, but i really want Tabias Harris. Would be deadly next to Melo, and a true 2nd option on offense. For center look out for Kosta Koufos, he's a real sleeper this offseason because he is stuck behind Marc Gasol, but he's a nice option at center and is relatively skilled and a good defender.
